Pistol Pete
Don't know much about cycling but from watching bit (in between converting to hologen headlights) I couldn't help but thinking team GB were sticking to their strategy, but others had long worked it out and took advantage and Team GB didn't react. To be fair to Cavandish's comments, from the commentary it was clear that Team GB worked very hard and nobody else joined in, so asking about tiredness was a stupid question! Unless he opened the conversation with 'I know nothing about cycling but was...' etc.
Mike H
The way I saw it - no-one else (no other team) could be arsed making the effort to close the gap. What was the point of the other teams being there if they weren't prepared to help in the chase? Those at the front of the peleton have to work twice as hard as those following so I'm not surprised they were knackered by the end. That said it is a bit odd that the team carries one member to the finish so he can get gold. If it's a team event (which it's not) then the medal should be to the team and maybe awarded based on a team average? ps. good on Cavendish for telling that 'reporter' - typical of our media looking for an 'angle' on everything! frubpato?
The GB team spent the last hour trying to catch the breakaway - they were doing an average (that's average!) of 60 kph - unbelievable speed for that type of event . They needed some of the other teams to take the load - usually the idea is the team work for which ever rider will get the win - that event screamed a mass sprint finish so you focus on Cavendish , the other teams had their sprinters but weren't strong enough to support them . Its funny listening to people who don't follow cycling making comments - i haven't done many but enough to know that what the team did to try to get Cavendish the win was truly impressive
Terry Everall
Maybe they should all take drugs and make it fairer? I think that the dream team had a nightmare! They were not as well prepared as the Womens team IMHO
