Rednop1 Posted July 23, 2012 Posted July 23, 2012 i have a mate thats fly back from spain for one week only and is looking to buy a a car back here and drive it back to spain and he want to know if there is a way of getting the new v5 in less than 5 working days. Quote
SteveD Posted July 23, 2012 Posted July 23, 2012 no , usually takes 2 weeks with relevant checks , but if he has the new keeper supliment or the v5 from the owner minus the export part then there is no problem Quote
Rednop1 Posted July 23, 2012 Author Posted July 23, 2012 will the dvla then send him the new v5 in spain if he only has the supliment Quote
Norman Verona Posted July 23, 2012 Posted July 23, 2012 To get a V5 you must have a UK address. You cannot register a car with a non UK address. If he's exporting the car I would advise he registers the car at a UK address and then get the V5c sent on. There is no rush, it will take weeks to sort out knowing Spain. He will need a letter of conformity from the manufacturer. This will cost from zero (Lotus) to £150 (Fiat & Peugeot). I'm assuming that Spain will be the same as France. The car will also need a Spanish MOT. I had someone I bought a car from fill in the sales part of the V5c with my French address. I had asked him to use my UK address. I got a letter from the DVLA to say I couldn't register the car in France (on a V5c) so they had "exported" the car. It then took me 14 months to get it registered in France because I didn't have a V5c. Just as an aside, the EU voted several years ago that each member country should recognise another member countries registration. In other words just exchange registration documents. You may remember we were all sent new V5c's with the information numbered. This was all part of that legislation. All EU registration documents now have the same information under the same classification. However France and others have refused to follow the rules (nothing new there then). There is new legislation going through the European Parliament now to correct the loopholes France has found. The next thing I'd like to see is a common MOT so each country accepted the others. Followed by European wide insurance cover. Quote
