Hi all,

F1 testing is on at Silverstone next week and as it's half term (my other half is a teacher) I'm considering trying to get a couple of days off and maybe go up there (from Swindon).

If the weather's fine then maybe I'll even take the Westfield.

Anyone else considering a trip up there? If so, I'll be the one with a steering wheel in my hand :)

Which days is it on, and any ideas which teams?

if you ring the circuit, they'll normally tell you who is booked in...

Might see what the weather is upto, and see who turns up on the tuesday (thru Autosport/whatever)

Cheers,

Just phoned them, they won't know until later this afternoon. I'll give them a try later.

Anyone know if there is a charge to get in or is it FOC?

Currently, the only teams that are confirmed are:

Renault (all 3 days)

BAR (Wednesday).

They expect there could be more, they'll know on Monday. I'll phone again then!

Last time I went it was free to get in. I suppose it could have changed since, I'll ask when I call them on Monday.

I went lastyear and it was free. The areas you can wander too are restricted... Mainly the complex, the start finish straight and copse corner.

If you're clever/lucky you can blag your way over the bridge into the paddock.

The speed they turn into Copse is pretty amazing.

We usually watch F1 qualifying from the inside of copse...you get to see the cars close hand as they come out of the pits, and as you say the speed through copse is something that has to be seen to be believed.

The Becketts / Maggots complex is also worth a look at, but as you say, you probably can't get there on a test day (and they might not even be using the full circuit I guess).

I went a couple of years ago, it was free on that day. Access was very restricted, the complex and half way down the pit straight only. No access to the grandstands either, even when it rained.

Difficult to complain when it's free, and I'm sure that's the reason it is free.

One of the places we managed to sneak to was bridge - that, AFAIC is the equal of copse.

I remember years ago going when Senna, Prost, Mansell, Piquet and a rookie Alesi (Tyrrell) were there, it was the first time I'd seem an F1 car. After the session there was a free for all in the pit lane, several drivers wandered around chatting and signing autographs - those days are gone unfortunately. I can understand why, I nearly got run over by a towed Williams with Boutsen at the wheel, i tried unknowingly to wander between the tow truck and him, of course a towed car is pretty quiet..

Any more info on this?

What info do you want?

I phoned Friday, and Renault will be there Tuesday to Thursday, BAR on Wednesday. The woman I spoke to said there was a good chance other teams would be there too, I was going to phone tomorrow before making the decision whether or not to go on Thursday.

Weather doesn't look too promising though :(

Ok, just phoned them again. Things have changed slightly!

They're now expecting both McLaren and Renault there today and tomorrow, and Jaguar are there today.

Weather forecast also looks a little better for tomorrow too, so that's quite good.

I'm still not sure I can definately say I'm going, but the chances are improving!

Anyone else interested?
