Interesting article in today's Mail

Caterham has reported a 32.4% fall in pre tax profits last yr.

It would appear that expensive toys are not being purchased at the moment. Wonder how Westfield are doing at the mo?

They seem to have two separate companies (Caterham Cars Ltd and Caterham Cars Group Ltd), maybe they are just shifting the figures about a bit...

Seems CC had a big spike in 2010 whereas CCG had a downturn - possibly just reversing that? Maybe something to do with the F1 team?

Can't find any info on Westfield though...

I would have expected the sales spike in 2010 (to improve the valuation pre sale) then profits to did owing to re-branding/investment, deadwooding of staff etc.... would be interesting to see if Westfield are doing well.....

Search for Potenza cars for better results.

Westfield were supposed to be at Formula student at Silverstone with their driving experience for the Weekend and didnt show!

they must still be selling some cars to end up with a £19m turnover though ! ???

watching the grand prix they were saying that Lotus had reduced car sales despite the F1 team doing well

wonder how much monies of Lotus and caterham actually is used to prop up the F1 teams - I assume these teams are more financed by outside backers?

The owners of Caterham also have stakes in QPR football club. Maybe the focus from the owners is in football as well F1 at the mo.

The article also mentions Lotus and the fact that they may be sold later this year.

It's difficult, probably impossible, to tell what's happening to a company from filed accounts.

I remember an accountant friend, who lives in Switzerland, trying to work out what was happening to Caterham at the time of the sale by the Nearnes, He kept asking me questions as to how the motor trade works but in the end he had more questions than answers.

I would expect the figures to be good before a sale. There are many ways of doing this. Hence the reason for "due diligence" (what a horrible US phrase!). Published account tell you nothing, looking at the business from the inside will tell you a lot more,

Don't get Lotus and Caterham confused. Lotus are owned by the same company that owns Potenza. Caterham are not part of that group...

I didn't know that (about Potenza)!

Not quite....

DRB-Hicom bought Proton, who were the owners of Group Lotus

Whereas the tie up between DRB-Hicom and Westfield was a joint venture agreement for the "development, import, manfacture and distribution of POTENZA sports cars in Asia Pacific and the manfacture of components and kits for UK assembly".

Unless thinks have changed and i didn't know, then DRB-Hicom haven't bought Potenza ???

I may have left some detail out for the purposes of controversy...:devil:

Potenza is a private company, owned by the Turner family! Nothing to do with Caterham or Lotus.

Aaaaah I get you. I think I should have posted something about Westfield having a more direct link to the original 7 than Caterham :p;)
