JeffC Posted July 18, 2012 Posted July 18, 2012 plenty of second hand 13" cr500s floating about for cheap money Cleggster ,as a road tyre I think they are a good compromise , very light and give the car a good feel plenty of grip in the wet and more than enough for road use in the dry , I think 888s Ao48s are wasted on the road you cant work them hard enough to get them to temp and if you are you shouldnt be! I use Cr500s for the road and £10 second hand slicks for the track which are similar pace to 888s but a fraction of the cost , down side is an extra set of rims but works out cheaper in the long run as when you are done you get your money back on the rims second hand. Cleggy the Spyder Man Posted July 26, 2012 Author Posted July 26, 2012 ok am looking at slicks for my track tyres (see my other post ref sizing) so sort of narrowed it down to the a021-r for road use - anyone have any idea of how long they will last in coparison to ao48's or r888's? thanks for the assistance Quote
adam1330 Posted July 26, 2012 Posted July 26, 2012 I think they are the same compound as the old A032R super soft, I seem to get through a set in around a year, maybe a bit more if I'm lucky, which is around 5000 miles, all road mileage. I have gone through a set of rears in a week whilst on holiday in the mountains, although in subsequent years looking after them a bit better has seen them last much longer! Quote
Cleggy the Spyder Man Posted July 31, 2012 Author Posted July 31, 2012 just to update this thread I have just spoken to polley motorsport and they are doing a021-r in 205 60 13 at £108 inc VAT and another £3.00 plus VAT to fit them to my wheels (assuming wheels off car which they will be) No bother for me as they are just 25 minutes or so away for me He seemed to think that you may get 50% longer tyre life out of ao21-r over the a048's although he did stress it is very difficult to judge Just getting my old wheels refurbed and will then give them a go and see how I get on Quote
