adhawkins Posted February 7, 2003 Posted February 7, 2003 Hi, Anyone got any experience of track / airfield days in the Swindon area? My research so far has only turned up events at Hullavington. Anyone been there who can comment on the track layout, organisation etc.? After seeing the video of the Elise, I'd like to avoid one that involved driving through a gate for obvious reasons I thought that people did track days at Kemble and Wroughton too, but can't find anywhere offering them in 2003. I heard there was a fatality at Wroughton recently, which could explain why. Also, there's Castle Coombe, but my experience as a spectator on one of their days has kind of put me off. Everyone was driving like nutters...I phone for track day insurance last week, and apparently CC is the highest risk track in the country! Any input would be appreciated... Ta. Andy Quote
peterg Posted February 7, 2003 Posted February 7, 2003 Easytrack used to do Kemble until Marcus had a falling out with the owners... they are getting their track dates sorted out first and then will be announcing airfield days (hopefully soon) Bookatrack do some good days as well but again their calendar only goes to end of Feb so far Quote
Mark Purves Posted February 8, 2003 Posted February 8, 2003 At Castle Coombe it is the CCC days that are bad. I have attended several days that the circuit organise and there are no problems what so ever. Quote
adhawkins Posted February 8, 2003 Author Posted February 8, 2003 CCC? Sorry, don't know that abbreviation. Enlighten me someone? Andy Quote
Mark Stanton Posted February 8, 2003 Posted February 8, 2003 Triple C are: Cars & Car Conversions, its a tuning / performance magazine. Magazine is fine: Just that some of its readers seem to be same kind that read Max-Power, all boom bass and large dia exhausts - and once on the circuit turn the baseball cap around and lose it Hence CCC track days can be somewhat "ill mannered" Quote
Blatman Posted February 8, 2003 Posted February 8, 2003 CCC = Car and Car Conversions Magazine. They run several Action Days at Castle Combe each year. I've driven at two, both of them were the "Classic and Sports Car" Action Days, and quite safe. The action days that cater for the "max power" end of the readership always sees the paddock littered with bent cars and glum looking owners who all seem to believe you can brake [after Avon Rise............ DickieB Posted February 8, 2003 Posted February 8, 2003 I use Motorsport Events - was with them at Hullavington and Kemble last year. They're very good, and if you speak to your local area AO - Tony Sighe (Glos & N Wilts) you will find that we will be organising a Westfield only day with them, as he did in 2002. They don't do the Max Power crowd. Very well organised, and nice people. Do a good line ininstruction as well - worked for me! Richard Brown Quote
AndyMoss Posted February 9, 2003 Posted February 9, 2003 If you want to try Combe in relative safety the Bristol Pegasus Motor Club run a great test day in July - Maximum 6 cars at any time means loads of track space. Most members are sprinters so most people know what they are doing - unlike at CCC. You would have to join the club ( £8 ) though as the places go really quickly. Also run a sprint at Combe in October that uses the full lap - unlike Bristol MC one in July which is a 3/4 lap event As these events are organised by a club and they don't make a profit the cost is as good as you are going to get. If you get into sprints the club also co-promotes sprints at Colerne airfield which is not too far away. www.bristolpegasus.co.uk Quote
