Tv Programmes That "fuzz" Registration Numbers

Why do the TV companies fuzz out the reg numbers of cars shown on their programmes.

If I wanted to clone a number I would walk to the nearest main road and wait a few minutes for a candidate.

Usually it's news programmes, and if they do it's done to protect the personal details of people considered to be at risk, i.e. politicians, sports figures, etc. - as well as protect the TV station from charges of endangering said at risk individual.

Often wondered that myself.

I watched the 1pm BBC news the other day and some MP or the like was filmed disappearing off in a black Range Rover. I recall seeing the plate 'in clear', yet on the 6pm news, exactly the same clip had the plates 'fuzzed out'. Seemed a bit pointless to me.

I was talking about a day time programme called "Real Rescues". No one famous, just ordinary people involved in accidents. Every number plate was fuzzed, even those driving past. Police and ambulances weren't so I suppose it's OK to show those.

There was some cop program on the other night and the guy they were arresting was a bit pished and they had his face fuzzed, Funny thing

was he had little dog with him and they fuzzed his face as well , presume the 'fuzzing man' was having a bit of a chuckle to himself unless

its done automatically by some recognition software.

Could be outstanding insurance claims and / or prosecutions, or something else as every car I see on the way to the scrapyard on a loader has gaffa tape across the number plates.

I would suspect that you have to agree to have your face shown on TV.

I suspect the reg numbers are "fuzzed" to avoid cloning. Can you get a name and address from a reg number, thought only police could do that.

The parking companies can do it.

I suspect as the erstwhile Memb Sec notes fuzzed out plates such as the program viewed are for insurance / legal reasons.

I do know of someone who's car was in the background shot of some reality TV prog that had their car cloned and it proved to be a PITA :( :( loads of traffic offences :( and the doucemmetation that had to be produced to prove the innocence was unbelieveable :( and the cloned car was even sold on with the dodgy numberplates :(

Mark, That's the reason I thought. But it would only take a few minutes to get a number from a similar spec car anyway.

Sad old world, isn't it.

Sounds like a great idea , where do you buy them from , Tesco's :)

I had a car cloned and nearly got arrested for attempted Child napping !! It was a scary incident, and proved that it is far too easy to clone a car

Of course it is, but fuzzing out reg number on TV won't stop it.

Sorry, whoever you are, you'll have to shout. I can't read this small writing.
