Dibby
Never understood the expensive watch thing, to me it looks like a badge to show off how much money you have and comes across a bit ostentatious. But then I don't understand the world of art and fashion either. What makes Tracey Emin's unmade bed worth a fortune and my unmade bed worth nothing? Things are only worth what someone is willing to pay for them I suppose and sometimes there is no logic to understand.
stephenh
Was this thread started by someone related to a certain American gentleman? ??? ("No" on two counts - I didn't start it and I'm no gentlemen - Scott)
s2rrr
This now lengthy string of posts is quite a reflection on the different opinions between people, rather a minority in some areas. As a few have stated if you are seriously wealthy a few quid on a toy isn't going to dent the Champagne cellar much. If these wealthy lot wish to blow 60k on the Caterham thats there decision and bearing in mind that normally you don't get rich by throwing it away. I think Gadgetman alluded to the rich Cheshire set, some of whom have more money than brains, thats why there are alledgedly more Ferraris is Alderley Edge/Wilmslow than Italy, I'm sure they don't give a jot about what anyone else really thinks so why worry about it. Whether a little touch of jealousy or desire has crept in, I don't know but its a personal thing. On the watch thing, I wanted a Breitling for almost as long as my Westfield and bought one on holiday 10 years ago in one of those moments like Gadgetman, I could and I did, even wifey was supportive of both which is admirable. I may lust after certain items in life but wouldn't condemn others who could afford it more readily than I, unless they were out and out scumbags that is. So its horses for courses as SteveD put it, it will reach whatever people are prepared to pay, same as houses and anything else in life. I don't understand this stupid bit in an opinion but most of the posts have been in the same sort of vane. When I watched the motors getting on the ferry Sunday night I wasn't saying "rich ba**ard I wouldn't have one", more a, like that motor but it will never be sat on my drive. Maybe the problem was in the wording more than the intent ---- but. I will leave it there for the time being. Bob
Doug Dastardly
It's a weeks wages to a footballing twit. They could buy it on a whim and not notice the effect on their balance. Must be nice
peterg
I wanted a Breitling for almost as long as my Westfield My nephew who works for an air charter company went to a seminar about a new private jet about to be launched, arrived 15 minutes late but dropped his business card into the bowl as requested, half an hour later his card was drawn out as the winner of a Breitling watch value £5k... he didn't even realise there was a prize draw! Nick Algar - Competition Secretary
Look on the good side guys, it's obvious that Caterham prices are getting pretty high. (maybe to pay for the F1 Team, who knows) but this should only have a knock on good effect on Westfield residuals, which helps all of us. I'm all for them making big money.

peterg
this is a bargain. http://www.pistonhea...les/3946087.htm £18k depreciation in 2 years and 2,500 miles.... I thought Caterham residuals were good
Martin Keene
this is a bargain. http://www.pistonhea...les/3946087.htm That's much more like it, I have never understood the point behind heaters and weather gear on something as extreme as an R500, that is a much better spec and a cracking price for the condition and mileage. Captain Colonial
Gentlemen, Play nicely and stick to the subject, or someone much bigger, uglier and more powerful than me will arrive and make his views clear - you know what and who I mean. Thanks.
