I thought the Rover V8 engines were't that much heavier than the usual 2 litre 4 cylinders ??

Anyone got any figures please ?

Dont know the wieghts but I do know that Jack Brabham used the Oldsmobile / RV8 block (with Repco heads ) to power his F1 cars to consecutive world championships 1966 / 1967 so they cant be that heavy :t-up:

Bit of useless info no 1001 :)

It's an aly block, (the Rover V8), so not that heavy their, but it has double the number of pistons and rods etc so the weight adds up again with the other bits. I can't remeber the exact figure, but it's not usually as heavy as many think it's going to be.

E46 was a 3.2 in the M and 343bhp I was wrong but it was 6.15! Had coffee since then, think the e36 was 3ltr...

E46 was lovely car, only felt fast with top down and on the limit though, to comfy, that's why I got a Westy!

The E36 had the 3.0 (280bhp) and 3.2 (321bhp, usually less) from 1995 or 1996. It was updated for the E46.

I was told it was not as heavy as you'd think - but would be interesting to have some numbers, anyone ??

But what is it?

A GKD

A Westfield

A Caterham

If it was in a toybox it would be a BMW

It is a GKD Legend. It was featured in CKC last year and, as MattB said, the guy selling it isn't the guy who built it.

A quick bit of Googling suggests about 230 KG fully dressed - ie starter, alternator, carbs/injection etc. More than I remember being quoted on here in the past, but then it's sooo difficult comparing engine weights, as one persons idea of "complete engine" can be different to another's. ;)

Thanks Gadgetman :)

That seems very heavy to me. :(

I'll try googling for a Zetec 2 litre.

crated 2 litre zetec weight 168 kg. But I assume that would include the crate, and just a bare engine ?

Adams site lists block plus heads as 110 kg, be interesting to know if that is just the three castings, or includes some/any innards.

Agreed - nice bit of spamming in that he includes what it isn't in the title (it's not a caterham or a westfield..) and neglects to actually say what it is (in part), a BMW...

I rather like this, would have an awesome sound track :)

The GKD chassis is also a slightly lengthened Ginetta. G27 I think. The original GKD's weren't longer as they took a 4 cyl 16v engine, but them they got into producing two chassis which was silly.

I was looking at an ally YB block to replace my iron one.

17kg saving (for £3000) just didn't seem worth it to me.

That and even my boat anchor Cossie is extremely light compared to a V8.

I was in a workshop that had the engine out of a 360 Ferrari yesterday, not a huge lump once you take all the ancillaries off and available second hand for less than a fancy Duratec build...............

A great out of the box idea scuppered by the fact that it's still a DOHC 90º V and it'd never fit.

Love to see it in an XTR4 (Yes yes, I know the BAM is transversely mounted) or something along those lines :)
