this is a bit of a daft question but this lot where i work are all ologists and dont get what im asking and i wanted to run something by people who may at least have a clue

if i wanted to balance a roating disc all i have to do is keep the centre of gravity of the disc in the middle?

while im thinking about it ... the two members who talked to me about the machining, sorry i didnt get back sooner. its sort of being dealt with by a company we colaborate with (who knows about this stuff) and they got quotes in the region of 30K for what we wanted. They looked into injection moulding and have found a place that will do it for much less.

As long as the disc is perfectly uniform in thickness, diameter and density then yes.

Well, yesish, as when something rotates the moment of inertia is more important than centre of gravity.

There's a useful intro to the subject on good old Wikipedia
