Bank Holiday And Garage Project

This comming bank holiday I am going to paint and sort my garage. White wash the walls, tile or paint the floor, add lights and make it look good.

So I need inspiration, what have you lot dons to your garages?

Also any top tips on painting the stone walls, can I sprey it on, or do I have to paint it with a s***ty brush?

I painted the walls of my garage, used cheap emulsion and a big brush and painted the floor. I fitted 3 fluorescent lights - 1 across the back and 1 down each side. Works really well in a single garage.

How was the cheap emulsion at covering the brick work?

Been meaning to paint mine but could help thinking it would just soak into the breezeblocks?!

my guess is that you wont do it in a weekend - not even a bank holiday weekend

if you get everything out you could have a go at spraying it - I used a brush and roller and it took fricking ages - about 3-4 coats (mixture of brick and block) although it does look great IMO - I even put skirting boards in and as you know Tony tiled the floor for me - I used sealer on the blocks too !!!

I dont mind giving you a hand in the evenings once the kids are down as you as you dont mind me splashing huge dollops of white on the fezza

Ahh and dont buy cheapy paint - I used a good masonry paint in the end and got on much better

Emulsion covers everything, brick and block but you may need 2 coats depending on how thick the paint is to start with. Roller or brush, doesn't matter. Paint the floor with special garage floor paint, you need to empty the garage and hoover the dust up,degrease, rinse, let it dry. The best quick drying paints are expensive so if you are not in a hurry use the cheaper versions of floor paint. Don't forget the ceiling as well. Once you done all that you'll have a dust free car as well, it does make a big difference.

as im renting mine, i left it unpainted. But i started haning car related photos and signs. Still loads more to do...

I think It took 2 coats, walls where mainly breeze block and some brick. As others have said it really helps with keeping the dust down and also makes it so much brighter to work in. It was bl**** hard work, but well worth it.

Use a long pile roller for the walls with a proper masonary paint, cheap paint is too thin,and you'll need 3-4 coats at least, don't worry about painting the floor, seal it with a couple of coats of SBR primer/sealer, this will stop the dust and add a slight sheen to the floor, oil and dirt will clean off easily, and it's a damn site cheaper option than paint and will dry in no time

In my experience the spray on masonry paint is rubbish - too thin.

Nothing better than a big brush or rollers (and a few mates!!).

I used 2 coats of pva glue mixed with water for the walls and floor. This started to waterproof the ground, also helps keep warmth in in the long cold winter months. Then painted all surfaces, 2 strip lights fitted, little work bench cobbled together from off cuts of kitchen work tops, computer with wireless connection installed and kettle placed neatly next to the milk and cups! Great place to work in :-D

8 years since I did mine, cheap emulsion still as good as when I did it!

It should dry quickly though if the weather stays as good as today.

Same with me, two coats of cheapo white emulsion from the local Focus the month before my kit arrived, still going strong today
