SootySport Posted May 17, 2012 Author Posted May 17, 2012 Tourism is probably the only way out for them. Their revenue collection system was shambolic and retirement age of 50 something, way too low, no manufacturing to speak of, they are on the edge of castastrophe along the same line as Zimbabwe. The electorate have put their faith in the new government which also have their heads in the sand and not going with the austerity measures that Germany and France insisted on. It will get worse for the Greeks sorry to say. Quote

jeff oakley Posted May 17, 2012 Posted May 17, 2012 I suspect we will see lots on greeks heading to the UK. Under Eu rules they can come here and will then fall onto our benfit system. The old in greece will still be there. Sootie has it right 50 years retirement age, no big industries, no tax collected from too many people it will be a mess for years to come. Quote

gfere40 Posted May 30, 2012 Posted May 30, 2012 Hi there, I am new here in your community. its easy to say that you will find cheap holidays but I think this year and following years most of these cheap holidays-all inclusive offers will definately go only to Greeks and not to any foreigners due to this fiance crisis that my country has. However, this was a desicion from the Greek Hotels Community, and wil see what will happen Grigoris Quote
westy turbo Posted May 30, 2012 Posted May 30, 2012 Many thinks that would like to discuss here.........that :"50 years retirement age" is one of the things that are not correct and sounds silly.......+ others. We talk about it after elections. Quote
Mike H Posted May 30, 2012 Posted May 30, 2012 If the situation does end up with Greece needing foreign currency flowing in then tourism is surely the main way to get it. If that means cheaper holidays in Greece then I (plus family) will be over there in a shot! Never been to mainland Greece so I would give that a go. Mike Quote
Dibby Posted May 30, 2012 Posted May 30, 2012 Say this costs every tax payer £5k to bail Greece out and they need a big cash injection? Why not give everyone in Britain £5k on the condition that it is spent on a holiday in Greece? I'd happily play my part and I'm pretty sure the wife would be up for it too, there's 2 of us already willing to help the Greeks out, quick petition on the Downing Street website and we'll all have a free holiday before long, Greece gets a huge injection of cash through the tourism industry and everyone's happy! Rory's Dad Posted May 30, 2012 Posted May 30, 2012 Trouble with the single currency is the lack of a single fiscal policy (at the very least) plus bankers and polititians not realising that there are winners and losers in the sort of games they've been playing. Rory's Dad Quote
