CriggyBarBar Posted May 14, 2012 Posted May 14, 2012 Hi all I now have my Westfield on Yokohama A021R's as recommended by people on this board, and sourced from George Polley, again following a WSCC member recommendation. The car has been transformed and feels so much safer (replaced 12+ yr old tyres that have been sat idle for 7 years or so). Since I've been back on the road all has been going great until yesterday I took her out for a final run in the evening in anticipation of more rain to come. The ignition warning light came on about 2 minutes in to the drive and then went off again about 3 minutes later then stayed off for the hour or so I was out. Is this likely to be a loose connection somewhere or potentially something more sinister? What should I check please oh knowledgeable ones? Thanks Chris Quote
Hammy Posted May 14, 2012 Posted May 14, 2012 It could be : - alternator on the way out - Loose connection - bad alternator earth - fanbelt slipping/missing ! Turn the headlamps etc on and see if the lamp glows dimly, sign of alternator nearing the end If it got very wet then its possible that was the cause and its now dried out? Quote
Rab (bombero) Reid Posted May 14, 2012 Posted May 14, 2012 What Hammy said! If you've gone through a puddle, it may have caused a slight slip in the belt until it dried out.. Go out for a couple more local runs and see if it happens again before you get the spanners out! ;-) Quote
s2rrr Posted May 14, 2012 Posted May 14, 2012 Mine was a dodgy connection block which plugs into the alternator, I had been too gentle in the assembly and not pushed it in proper like, it is quite small and has a couple of catch type lugs on. Bob Quote
SootySport Posted May 14, 2012 Posted May 14, 2012 If you have those blue crimp on aluminium spade terminals , get rid of them, Notoriuos for high resistance especially if the car has been standing around. Quote
pistonbroke Posted May 14, 2012 Posted May 14, 2012 Yup check spade terminals ont' alternator for bad connection / loose fit Quote
80BSY Posted May 15, 2012 Posted May 15, 2012 (edited) Do you have a separate voltage regulator, these tend to get forgotten on older cars, but will cause that problem. That's assuming it's none of the above anyway. Edited May 15, 2012 by 80BSY Quote
