adamnreeves Posted May 12, 2012 Posted May 12, 2012 Full geometry and corner weighting set-up done. Very Very informative, I've learnt a lot today. Options provided, explained, justified and effects explained with examples. I have the procomp dampers and springs so damper rate checked and dialled in on the car along with suggestions for settings for road, track, wet. etc. I cannot praise these guys enough. I am one very happy customer. Thanks! Oh, and the price was very good as well. Quote
KugaWestie Posted May 12, 2012 Posted May 12, 2012 A professional set up makes a lot of difference, and is money well spent. I bet you noticed the difference on the way back! Quote
The Crafty Carpenter Posted May 12, 2012 Posted May 12, 2012 Im booked in there on the 31st of this month for exactly the same, can't wait, as mine skips all over the place at the mo! Quote
adamnreeves Posted May 12, 2012 Author Posted May 12, 2012 I did but to be honest as it was late when I left I came back on the motorway but I really can tell the difference even in a striaght. I didn't realize as I grew accustomised but it seems I was gripping on the steering wheel a fair amount. On the way back it just felt like it was steering straight on its own. I came off at J10 and gave it some beans from barnet green, you now the loverly sweeping, camber changing dipping corners, and it handled much better there, much more confidence. The roundabouts where I could get the back to step out, I drove at a speed I'd expect the back to step out and it didn't. So looking good. The car was setup before but since then I had installed Wide trace, Front and rear ARBs, changed the dampers and springs configured and setup by Procomp. Quote
The Crafty Carpenter Posted May 12, 2012 Posted May 12, 2012 Did you notce much difference when you fitted the ARB's? and did you fit both together? Regards Dave Quote
KugaWestie Posted May 12, 2012 Posted May 12, 2012 Yes I know that stretch of road, nice run for 3 or 4 miles I found exactly the same when NMS done mine, all of a sudden my fingers were the same colour as the rest of my body, rather than white from gripping the wheel Quote
Pete A Posted May 12, 2012 Posted May 12, 2012 My 1st upgrade was going to be ARBs and a full Geo set up. I am half way between Blink and Procomp, and I hear great reviews on both. Any tips on which ARBs Quote
Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) - Club Chairman Posted May 12, 2012 Posted May 12, 2012 I've used Playskool ARB's front and rear; very pleased with them and they do a wider, but still conventional style, front bar that's suitable for use with Westfield (and presumably others) wide track. Quote

Any tips on which ARBs I bought Siltech which are not as stiff as the Westfield ones which apparently are too stiff. Also I'd say just get a front one done, depending on the setup of your car, the rear is probably not necesary. Promcomp can fabricate ARBs to suit for your car and setup. NMS do one which is a blade adjustable one which makes adjustment easy if you into changing for each track. Playskool do them also. The rear one will need a plate welding onto the rear wishbones if they do not have plate. I went for the Siltech one because it uses a clamb arrangement. Quote
Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) - Club Chairman Posted May 12, 2012 Posted May 12, 2012 Saves getting the geo re-done later Seriously though, the wide track upgrade is one of the best upgrades I've done on the wheel/tyre/chassis side of things. The main reason? Because it gives a decent amount of steering lock at last, no more odd road positioning to make a turn, much more manoeuvrable and in one very big sideways moment at Aintree a few years ago, I wouldn't have had enough steering lock to hold the slide without wide track. In all seriousness, I don't actually get why there even is a wide track option these days. It should just be standard. Quote
adamnreeves Posted May 12, 2012 Author Posted May 12, 2012 Cheers. Should I go wide track while I'm at it? Some will say that Wide track is not necessary for the road but I would disagree with that. Wide track made a substantial difference to mine: 1) Centre of gravity was lowered making the car more stable 2) Reduced roll 3) Allowed me to have a greater steering angle improving the turning circle 4) I could then use a proper quick rack improving turn-in dramatically. Without doubt wide track made the largest improvement to my car. I notied all the above within 2minutes of driving the car for the first time. edit: as gadgetman says, get this done first then geo, not like what I did which was geo, widetrack, rack, ARBs, new dampers and springs and another geo. Pete A Posted May 12, 2012 Posted May 12, 2012 Think I got a quick rack on. Which wide track would you recommend? Are nylon bushes a step too far for road use? Quote
matt nossiter Posted May 12, 2012 Posted May 12, 2012 Just need to get it on track now Adam to see how it handles , do you fancy Cadwell on the 21st ! Quote
Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) - Club Chairman Posted May 12, 2012 Posted May 12, 2012 Nylon bushes can work very well for the road, but they're just part of a whole package, so need to be judged as part of that. I run mine on the slightly softer sprung side, to get really good traction on the normal road, and to keep as much tyre as possible on the Tarmac in normal day to day conditions, as opposed to a smooth track. I use ARBs to control the roll. At the same time, I've got factory wide track which helps add also helps add a bit of stability back, as I run with front toe out to give a more aggressive turn in... As I say, it's a whole group of parts, (there are other mods to), combined with a geo setting to take best advantage and give the sort of feel that I want from the car. It's worth talking through your plans and what you want to achieve with whoever you plan on having do your geo set up, get their advice too. Quote
