neo Posted August 12, 2002 Posted August 12, 2002 just wondering if anyone had some handy thats all will save some time as i have no idea where its at Quote
damianc Posted August 13, 2002 Posted August 13, 2002 Head to york and take the ring road to scarborough/hull. At the exit pointing to the university/hull (on a64 south of york), take the exit to hull, but immediately follow the right turn along the b1228 to howden etc... AA signs will lead you to Elvington air museum( on the right) and basically you're there. It'll be obvious once you're at the air museum http://www.multimap.co.uk/map....ap.y=97 Quote
SteveF Posted August 13, 2002 Posted August 13, 2002 Couple of other usefull bits of information ... The nearest optimax - head out of Elvington towards York - cross over the A64 & keep going - its about 10-15 mins drive You can usually walk into the air museum next door free of charge if you've got your wrist band on - and the food in the NAFI is a lot better than the usual burger van (euch!!! - the hot dogs are pretty disgusting! Have fun & don't go off the tarmac sideways - its about the only danger there - if you do - its easy to roll - Ask the M3 driver who proved that 'flip up hoops' do work! Steve Quote
damianc Posted August 13, 2002 Posted August 13, 2002 Optimax... follow 1079 (hull road) into york. Shell station at the junction of Green Dykes lane http://www.multimap.co.uk/map....p.y=228 Quote
Jon Murray Posted August 14, 2002 Posted August 14, 2002 Alternatively, for those who don't rate Optimax too highly... There's a local garage in Elvington itself, 1 mins drive from the airfield. Can't remember what it sells, something like Q8 - it's petrol anyway. Jon Quote
SteveF Posted August 14, 2002 Posted August 14, 2002 IIRC Don't think it sells LRP/4 star or Super Quote
damianc Posted August 14, 2002 Posted August 14, 2002 The village shop sells good flapjack though Quote
juansolo Posted August 17, 2002 Posted August 17, 2002 ou can usually walk into the air museum next door free of charge if you've got your wrist band on - and the food in the NAFI is a lot better than the usual burger van (euch!!! - the hot dogs are pretty disgusting! Not any more I'm afraid. Unfortunately relations between the airfield owners and the museum ain't what they used to be. If you want to use the museums facilities now, they'll charge you £4 for the priviledge. Shame. Quote
