Captain Colonial Posted April 27, 2012 Share Posted April 27, 2012 Wisdom and experience of the WSCC Collective needed please My 21-year-old grandson (do not ask) is about to get his driving license (and he will never, repeat, NEVER touch, let alone drive "The Wench") and he requires insurance. He's going to be given a 2002 Citroen Saxo 1.1 litre petrol as his first wheels, seems a good choice for insurance purposes. I know it will cost a fortunate as it's not about what his car is worth, it's about how much damage he'll do with it to other people's property. Best quote so far has been £1,500 TPFT. Not going to play the game with registered in his mum's name when only he'll drive it, because I'm not paying for it anyway and it's not my problem. I always find that confused.com is the best comparison site compared to all the others. Dibby Posted April 27, 2012 Share Posted April 27, 2012 Don't know if it's still relevant but Co-op insurance was always cheapest for me and my bunch of mates back wen we learnt to drive. £1500 TPFT sounds about right though, 15 years ago I was 17 in an 18 year old MkII Escort, the car was worth £250 and I was paying £1000 TPFT. Hard to say, I've never sat in car when he was behind the wheel, but I remember what I was like at 21, so I'm under illusions of what any 21-year-old male with a fresh license can be like, so he could be a lunatic - hope not, but worry is a part of being a parent or grandparent. No doubt the stereo will be worth more than the car in short order. Don't get me wrong, £1500 is a reasonable quote, but then again, £1500 is a lot of money IYSWIM. Then again, £1500 is cheap peace of mind for being legal and protected. Just trying to do the best for my grandson and his mum. Thanks for the replies so far, keep 'em coming! If he did TWOC it , he'd be better off driving it off Beachy Head a la Thelma and Louise, because I'd kill him when he brought it back. The seat is bolted down not to lower the height but so Lady C can't reach the pedals. I even have a specific mechanic who is building a Westfield with his son do my MOTs so I know he won't abuse it.
