Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) - Club Chairman Posted April 10, 2012 Posted April 10, 2012 Soft Bits for Sevens do one for the Caterham, slips over the headrests IIRC with a mesh panel between the seats. I've heard a few people comment about it being effective. Trouble is though when comparing Caterhams or other more, how can I put it, "production type" Sevens to the Westfield, is its easy to forget how variable identical spec Westfields are. There are, or were, several ZK bodystyle moulds for example. I'm convinced from what I've seen over the years that the parts each set produces aren't identical, and indeed need quite a bit of fettling to use some parts form one mould set with parts from another. Add in minor alignment differences when fitting the main tub, which thanks to the sides only being connected by the back panel, can easily be fitted with all sorts of different tapers and twists to the sides before you even start bolting scuttles and windscreens on, that it's hard to see how you'd allow for the variance with a rigid top, unless if was somehow bolted in place prior to fixing the tub down. I do think a rigid, lightweight half tonneau cover for those driver only days would be really useful though, and a little easier to make something more universal. Quote
Mark (smokey mow) Posted April 10, 2012 Posted April 10, 2012 If it was chrome I'd buy it Oh and I'd laugh my off if I ever had the chance to watch Nik trying to get in a Westfield with the hood up Quote

Dibby Posted April 11, 2012 Posted April 11, 2012 Personally I wouldn;t be interested, had a soft top for the old Robin Hood and only put it on once to check it fitted when we bought the car. Only driven once in the rain and the car was so light and skittery I wouldn't want a roof to drive in the wet. Most of the rain came in under the windscreen and flicked up in my face. As others have said, it's been tried a couple of times before and never really took off, maybe he could invent something to retain the strength in the chassis while opening the whole side up, or a seat that raises up to the side of the tub to let people with bad hips and backs in and out easier.
