Well thought it was time to fix that annoying little oil leak ....will only take me an hour or so ??? ...bolts out, screwdriver in, this is going well..away comes then sump then it stops..

Im guessing its something to do with the pickup pipe? or is there just a knack to removing it that a dont have  ?

Cheers

From Memory, i think the pick up pipe sits in a baffle/windage tray and you have to "find" the right place for it to be allowed through.

The pick up pipe can be clamped/bolted to the block and windage try. (3bolts it think)

Again this is all from memory so could be way out !

The sump itself doesn't really get hooked up on the pickup pipe normally. However, the wind age tray that fits between the sump and block can be an awkward little b******* to thread through the pickup; because it either has a cork gasket on both sides, or a rubber bonded on gasket either side, it's a 50/50 chance whether it sticks to the sump or the block. If its remained on the sump, that's when the sump appears to get hung up.

You just need to carefully sepperate the tray from the sump, then it should come free. The wind age tray isn't fixed in place by any fasteners - the sump bolts through it to clamp it in place. It may have had RTV or some other sealant added though to stick it in place.

Once the sumps off you should be able to wiggle the tray out, I've usually needed to at least slacken off the locating screw for the pickup pipe though. The tray will come off with the engine in situ, but it can feel a bit like one of those fairground puzzles!

Thx all,

All sorted. The top gasket had come away quite easy but took me a while to realise that there was a second gasket bonded quite well to the WIndage tray , As soon as this was seperated the sump just dropped out.

One bolt to remove the oil pickup support bracket then out with the Tray

New one and back on the road.
