Guest johnwalker Posted March 31, 2012 Posted March 31, 2012 recently i was looking at making my suspention stiffer has when pushed on roll bar felt rather soft at the rear end and commented by other westy owner dont realy no too much about it but for free i had a good look round shocks they are original westfield put on car in 2000 new to build and car has done 24000 miles and has a z tec engine wide body the screw thats on the bottom of the shocks on each leg screws in about 4 turns and then clicks the you can screw it in again but does exactly the same it is though it never srews in fully and stops but goes back throught the same proseedure so on all 4 shocks i turned them all to the click and then left them can enybody explain should the srews screw in fully then back em off equilly all the springs are fully unwound on back and front could the shocks require upgrading has they are 12 year old thanks john Quote
Guest johnwalker Posted March 31, 2012 Posted March 31, 2012 (edited) take it from 40 od people looking that no one know one as the answer Edited March 31, 2012 by johnwalker Quote
SteveD Posted March 31, 2012 Posted March 31, 2012 chances are the shocks will need replacing at that milage and age anyway ,i would go for protech's or gaz for best for not much money and nitrons if you wanna spend around 1k Quote
Nick PC Posted March 31, 2012 Posted March 31, 2012 My standard suspension bounces too much just being sorted with Gaz shocks by Northampton Motorsport, cannot wait to see the difference Quote
Lurksalot Posted March 31, 2012 Posted March 31, 2012 Mine are adjustable and click to show the level of damping they are set to , if you can't find an end to the turning they may be donald , but if they find a stop after winding all the way you may find a damping value to work from . just by bouncing the car you should find a degree of adjustment , and if you've managed 24K without issue you should find enough to make some improvement , besides it is up to you, if it drives how you like it , leave it alone. Guest johnwalker Posted April 1, 2012 Posted April 1, 2012 i guys thanks i am going to re new the lot with bushes on the rear wishbones bushes and fit a new sump to lower car next problem what siae shocks john Quote
Evo,s 7SE Posted April 1, 2012 Posted April 1, 2012 to reset the shocks to the lowest setting ie softest you should be able to turn them anti clockwise til it stops if it doesnt stop there prob knackered protech from procomp are reasonably priced and valved spefically for westies about 90 quid each with out springs Quote
SootySport Posted April 2, 2012 Posted April 2, 2012 Procomp also supply new springs to go with the new dampers and for about £14 each. I just phoned them and they new what was required for my car, I just had to measure the spring diameters and lengths and they sorted out everything and posted them to me. Quote
dhutch Posted April 2, 2012 Posted April 2, 2012 protech from procomp are reasonably priced and valved spefically for westies about 90 quid each with out springs This is what I bought when my rears needed replacing. I understand procomp revalve them to better suit the lighter car, and match them into pairs so the clicks are the same both sides. Eitherway, competativly priced compaired to buying direct. I also had to replace the spings as the origanal ones where the wrong lenght. However, the fronts where fine and have been left.Daniel Quote
stephenh Posted April 2, 2012 Posted April 2, 2012 The danger of going too stiff at the back is that it may result in reduced grip on hard acceleration, so don't overdo it. Quote
