thos Posted March 31, 2012 Posted March 31, 2012 Got myself a new GoPro Hero2, but I'm struggling to do any editing or even making clips. I'd only used Windows Movie Maker before, but it cant handle MP4 and if I start converting to AVI, I lose the quality. What are other people using? Quote
Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) - Club Chairman Posted March 31, 2012 Posted March 31, 2012 Here's a handy resource - lots of useful info! Clicky Including editing software and work flow. Be aware though that editing HD video is a real machine buster in terms of both storage and power. I'm at the stage of piling up recordings but not being able to do huge amounts with them at the moment :bangshead: because my reasonably powerful, but older PC that works fine for photography/Photoshop, AutoCAD and the like tends to fall over and freeze when transcoding or editing the full size files. Looking at replacing the machine in a few weeks so that I can crack on with the raw footage. Quote
Mark (smokey mow) Posted March 31, 2012 Posted March 31, 2012 I use Race Render, which is a simple to use program that allows for basic cropping of videos but also syncronising of multiple videos for picture in picture or data overlay. It'll read and save most video formats and in different resolutions. It's a free download, but that limits you to 3 minutes maximum for the finished video, or you can buy the fully version for around £20. Link to Race Render Quote
JustCallMeMac Posted March 31, 2012 Posted March 31, 2012 For very simple clip creation / trimming, download Cineform Studio from the Go Pro site. It's free but editing functionality is really lacking. Clips are converted to AVI and MP4 which can be edited elsewhere. http://gopro.com/3d-cineform-studio-software-download/ Personally I use AVS Video Editor. Can handle most file types, has good features and decent output options. Trial version available here: http://www.avs4you.com/AVS-Video-Editor.aspx Quote

It works well, very similar to moviemaker in fact and I can insert my data logging. The only gripe I have is I find it a bit slow, but I think this could be more to do with the PC rather than the software. I made this before I bought the software (hence the watermark) which gives you an idea what you can do with it: Pete Quote
thos Posted March 31, 2012 Author Posted March 31, 2012 I used the GoPro CineForm to make a clip alright, but I'd hope to at least put a title page on it. I'll try a few of those others - it does seem a bit painful so far try to convert, import/export, and move big chunks around, so looking for something that makes life a bit easier. Dont fancy forking out much cash for one yet either until I can play with one or two. I've got a DL1 data logger too, so will be trying the Race Technology tools and maybe Track Vision to see what they can do. Thanks for the suggestions! Tom PS - first clip here - Quote
