7sRWild Posted March 30, 2012 Posted March 30, 2012 I am looking for the dimensions for the rac roll bar, I want to get a half top from Steve mahon, importing a roll bar from the UK it crazy money, so having one built here in Canada is a better bet. Can anyone help me out with the dimensions please. Quote
Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) - Club Chairman Posted March 30, 2012 Posted March 30, 2012 If you're having one made anyway, why not take the chance to get one made with better dimensions; or at least, one that fits you! Unless you've got dropped floors, the RAC bar is actually a bit too low for many of the drivers six foot or more tall. That's why you seem them at events with extra hoops welded to the top! (I'll measure mine for you, but I won't be near the car before this evening I'm afraid) Not saying you should copy the design, but if you can, might be worth at least getting the height from the taller PlaysKool bar, which gives better protection than the factory offering. Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) - Club Chairman Posted April 1, 2012 Posted April 1, 2012 OK, just in the garage having a quick measure: The diagonally braced main hoop is 405 mm high on mine. (This is the total height measured from the top of the plates welded onto the ends of the hoop - which bolt onto the chassis, to the top of the horizontal tube). The width of the front hoop - outer edge of tube to outer, is 965 mm. Bear in mind this seems to vary a little car to car when fitted - it's not uncommon to use a ratchet strap to close the legs enough to fit!) The diagonal runs from the top (rounded) corner to join on to the opposite upright 50 mm up from the end of the tube. The tubing is approx 38 mm diameter. The top edge of the back stay brackets is approx 35 mm below the top edge of the horizontal part of the main hoop. Because of the way my bootbox is fitted round the 'bar assembly, I can't actually get a tape measure on to the back stays to measure their length, but hope that helps! Quote
7sRWild Posted April 1, 2012 Author Posted April 1, 2012 Helps a lot, thanks for your help. Will pass the dimensions on to my welder, once again, this is what makes this a great club to be a member of... Quote
