RedditchJay Posted March 27, 2012 Posted March 27, 2012 IF a car {my 911} is running Castrol edge 5w 40 a3/b3 FULLY Synthetic COULD i change to a slighty thicker semi synthetic... here's why.... The old 911 3.2 engine suffer with burning oil and smoke..... mine has 100k on the clock and is due a top end re build {some £3k}, as it needs an oil change anyway I was toying with a thicker oil but not so thick it stresses trhe oil pump... Keeping in mind its 23yrs old and would have ran on some old crudge oil back then like 20/50... advice again from the lads / lasses in the know... Jay Quote
Norman Verona Posted March 28, 2012 Posted March 28, 2012 Why semi-synthetic? Refill with 10w-50 fully synthetic. Here's a table showing the grades: http://www.roymech.co.uk/Useful_Tables/Tribology/Viscosity.html the table is about 1/2 way down. Quote
