evo97 Posted March 27, 2012 Author Posted March 27, 2012 Stick in there and hope for the best. We've just been through something similar but the outcome was not good. The youngest (5yrs old) of our 2 golden retrievers had to be put down on the operating table a couple of weeks back due to a major pancreatic tumour. Nothing the vet could do and we never got the chance to say goodbye. Devastating for the whole family and, although it sounds daft to make the comparison if your not a 'dog' person, felt like losing one of the kids. She was a huge presence in the house and it's hard to believe she won't suddenly appear round the door. Ironically, our older dog has a liver condition and we don't expect her to last the year - the young one always seemed absolutely bullet-proof. Just goes to show, you never know what's round the corner. Anyway, I really hope yours has a positive outcome. Matt. Jesus Matt. Really sorry to hear that mate. Thanks again for responce and wishes again!! Im not really a big poster on forums for personal sh!t but im taken back by the response! Thanks again and what a great forum Nathan. Quote

matt nossiter Posted March 27, 2012 Posted March 27, 2012 Like a lot of people on here we've gone through what your going through , wish you all the best and hope everthing works out Quote
jeff oakley Posted March 27, 2012 Posted March 27, 2012 Hope it all works out well for you and the dog, but I would say this, Dogs cannot say what pain they are in and if the worst happens you need to be strong enough to make the right decision which is best for the dog. Our springer (spax) has had work done which others might not have had done but the pain was proportional to the life it could have, if the balance is not good, sad as it is you know what must be done. A good vet will tell the truth and not prolong this for profit. Quote
rocket_rabbit Posted March 28, 2012 Posted March 28, 2012 I have grown up with dogs and it hurts when they leave. Positive note, my brother's Lhasa Apso had severe back trouble and ended up having multiple operations on his spine. Was touch and go for quite a while, but pulled through (even though he hasn't got the spring he used to). Fingers crossed for you Quote
Dibby Posted March 28, 2012 Posted March 28, 2012 I learnt last night why we have pets after I came home to a carpet of feathers in the kitchen and half a sparrow under the table. She had her first bird, looks like its last meal was corn from the garden seed feeder. The reason we have pets is because I'd never be able to catch a sparrow, they fly off way too fast for me. Quote
lippydave Posted March 28, 2012 Posted March 28, 2012 Only just read this and would just like to add my best wishes fwiw. Having four large dogs in the household and having been through the pain of losing dogs to old age in the past I can perfectly understand your angst. Fingers crossed for a good outcome. Dave L. Quote
