Man On The Clapham Omnibus Posted March 26, 2012 Posted March 26, 2012 My Westfield has been on SORN since the start of last October with only the occasional roll back and forth in the garage with the clutch depressed and in gear to make sure of no brake or clutch sticking problems, so I was very pleased that it started this morning with very little drama in readiness for my MOT at 4 o'clock this afternoon. I started it this morning it with the intention of making sure that it would at least go, and intended to leave it standing on a fast-ish idle to replenish the battery and warm it up. As the idle was too slow for it to idle properly until it was warm, I decided to tweak the throttle stop for the purpose and back it off when it would run happily. On removing the bonnet to tweak the idle, I noticed a growing pool of petrol on the inlet manifold. The fuel pipe between the carbs had perished over the winter and was dumping fuel on the top of the engine. Luckily I had a length of fuel hose and a moment's work had it fixed. Lucky that I thought to get it out early in the day! Then came the panic stations as when I got it going again with the new fuel pipe I drove it down the drive, blipped the throttle and selected reverse to back it up the garage again, only to find the alarm of my tin-top going! A quick run inside for the key to stop it and all was well again. Until I came to leave for the MOT at about three thirty - the damned alarm went off again as I drove past the other car I assume it's the low frequency thump from the exhaust (on the same side as the alarmed car). Had to ask the Good Lady to stand by with the key to reset it after I'd gone. I used to be able to drive down a road of parked cars and set off a good few of them with the old Westfield silencer, but it hasn't happened with my big fat Wunoff before. Time to look at the stuffing methinks... ETA: It passed! Quote
Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) - Club Chairman Posted March 26, 2012 Posted March 26, 2012 Good to hear its passed with all the lovely weather! Since changing to Jenvey SF's I seem to be able to set car alarms off on the offside too. Quote
Norman Verona Posted March 26, 2012 Posted March 26, 2012 I set of a whole street of car alarms - both sides of the street! Well done on the pass. Quote
jeff oakley Posted March 27, 2012 Posted March 27, 2012 Ikea undergroud car parks are good for this game. Childish I know but there has to be some fun in joining the souless shuffle around that store. Quote
