Andrew
Don't think this thread is going the way the OP intended. http://www.blatchat.com/t.asp?id=215099&pn=1&ps=15 Good on "Tyrone" (ne7er I beleive,) for speaking up for proper Petrol heads. I personally don't care what folks drive, we're all the same at heart!
Mark (smokey mow)
:t-up: IMO it's not what you drive that's important, but the fact that it gives you enjoyment driving it It reminds me very much of this thread on BC 2 years ago which didn't quite get the respose the OP expected, and the amount of members that joined the boardroom at that time to offer words of support to us. Dibby
:t-up: IMO it's not what you drive that's important, but the fact that it gives you enjoyment driving it Very true. There will always be someone with a faster, lighter, car with more carbon, more chrome, more anodised bling. Enjoy what we've got because plenty of people don't have a toy car. When you're out in the fresh air getting a sunburnt face with the engine singing away it washes away all the worries Used to take part in some of the Pistonheads chatter but generally the holier than thou, self sanctamonious keyboard warriors make themselves known a little too much. Always up for a debate but belittling people for the sake of winning an argument with someone on the other side of the world you have never met? There are better and more important things to spend your time on
Norman Verona
To answer your question, I doubt it.
Man On The Clapham Omnibus
I have to say that I saw this thread and wondered the same thing. I wanted a Lotus 7 way back when they were about £650 as a kit and sported a 1600 Anglia engine and Standard Ten wheels. The similarity between a 7 of the sixties and those from Caterham today is more tenuous than that between a modern Caterham and a Westfield. But still the argument persists. Lotus lost their way in styling with the Mk4 (was it?) - it was simply ugly. When the Westfield came along with what I consider the 'classic' 7 looks c/w swept wings I changed my ambitions in that direction. Caterham have restored the look since, of course, but I still prefer swept wings for the retro look. They are both great cars for their purpose and we all should collaborate, not squabble! Norman Verona
If you met some of them you'd understand why they act like snobs and belittle everything and everyone.
SootySport
I like both the Westy and the Caterham, only driven a Caterham once. When it came to buying one, the difference in price told me the Westy was the better buy. I think the OP was just stating his dislike of the design of a Westy, God knows why, thats his view. It's a bit like folk saying they prefer an Audi A3 to a Golf , not a lot of difference, just put together in a different package. Oli is probably a nice guy if we met him. echoz
it really is hard to believe that grown adults can speak with such a downtone towards others., i f***** hate snobbery and one upmanship! in the words of someone famous "cant we all just get along?" 7sRWild
Been said so many times...a 7 is a 7 is a 7 is a 7 is a fricken 7. Don't care what name tag they have, drive them because of what they are and how they make us feel while we are in them. If its only about the name, you don't understand the real meaning or purpose of this amazing machine.
JeffC
I don't think its a caterham owner thing, you meet keyboard warriors on all forums and the wsscc is no different , u r always going to find someone you disagree with or rubs you up the wrong way, but must admit as a Caterham owner of 4 years Ive never bothered to register on blatchat (yet) ,but i go on daily to surf around various topics, some of the topics are wayyyyyy beyond my intellect and I really think I should go back to college to study English language / grammar before I try and register I've said this before but if you want an example of how bad it can get take a look at the Porsche forum, it takes snobbery to a whole new level, they have there own inter-brand snobbery If you own a Boxster or Cayman you are the lowest rank, you will struggle to get a reply and certainly not from a 911 owner, and Gt owners think they are way above standard 911 owners its almost comical, I was flamed big time for daring to suggest that my Boxster was 20 times the car to drive than my 911 was , I pulled the pin dropped grenade and legged it
Norman Verona
Jeff, it's not just on Blatchat. Some of them are the worst sort of people you would ever meet. I could email you a few examples but I'm sure you've heard them before.
JeffC
yep the pompous ones stick out like a sore d*** Norm, ive noticed the odd one gets on P/heads too.
Dibby
The odd one? It seems full of them on Pistonheads. Usually the ones slating the cars have never owned or driven one. Gave up on the forums there many moons ago. There are some gems out there where the mods keep the keyboard warriors in check (usually with the big red ban button) and everyone gets on like a house on fire. Norman Verona
In my time the main problem was that the officers of the club hardly used the forum. When things went wrong they just screamed "we are only volunteers, we have our normal lives to lead". It never occurred to them that if they managed the activity on the forum they wouldn't have to spend time cleaning up the mess.
leemarkadams
As an owner of a Porsche 911 (with gt3 kit on it) as well as the westie I have been the recipient of some smug remarks on a certain Porsche forum, but you know what? I do not care a bit as I am a petrol head who can not justify spending 3 times the amount for a 'proper' gt3 that will perhaps give me 30% more performance and handling (besides I am no professional racing driver!). When I was looking at a track day car I looked at caterhams as well as westies, and I will admit caterhams are generally better quality but at what cost? To get the performance I have I'm my westie (Steve c's old one) I would be looking at an r300 at least and again a lot more cost! In summary, sod em!!!
