Fat Thor Posted March 15, 2012 Posted March 15, 2012 Hi all!! I have an aero screen and it is great!! Just booked up for my yearly pilgramage to Le Mans, and I suddenly thought what if it rains? I have never took it out in the rain, what do you guys do??? Someone told me to take a golf brolly in the passenger footwell. Quote
XTR2Turbo Posted March 15, 2012 Posted March 15, 2012 if really wet you will need a helmet on. Best to wear one anyway on the motorway. Quote
Marcus Barlow - Show and Events Co-ordinator Posted March 15, 2012 Posted March 15, 2012 Dont bother with golf brolly in passenger footwell drill some holes instead Quote
peterm135 Posted March 15, 2012 Posted March 15, 2012 Get a cheap oversuit as well as a helmet. Quote
Mark (smokey mow) Posted March 15, 2012 Posted March 15, 2012 When I took mine to LeMans 2 years ago I got soaked and thats with a screen and the hood up at the time Quote
Dave the Sparky Posted March 15, 2012 Posted March 15, 2012 Treat it like a motorbike, carry appropriate wet gear, take any carpets out and pray for sun! Dave Quote
Dibby Posted March 16, 2012 Posted March 16, 2012 I'd take a helmet anyway, an 80mph bumblebee would smart a bit when it kits you in the eye. In any Westfield you'll get soaked. Just have to grin and bear it if it rains Quote
Cleggy the Spyder Man Posted March 16, 2012 Posted March 16, 2012 buy a good all in one quality waterproof suit rather than a jacket and trouser would be my recommendation Quote
Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) - Club Chairman Posted March 16, 2012 Posted March 16, 2012 One of those odd little psychological quirks I guess; but I always used to find with my head, and particularly face, nice and toasty dry inside a helmet, driving in the rain didn't feel anywhere near as bad, even if I didn't have waterproofs on and the rest of me was getting wet. frag68 Posted March 16, 2012 Posted March 16, 2012 I agree with the above posts. I went to Le mans last with side screens and windscreen and got drenched going at Doncaster in a hail storm. Had a waterproof jacket but the water comes up the wheelarches and down into the seats over the screen etc. My car is older and the panel seals are useless and the inside was filling up with water as well. Fortunately the car broke down in Rouen on the way home and I missed driving in the rain on the Sunday night and got a lift in a breakdown truck instead If you have aeroscreens get a one piece bike suit and a helmet and enjoy the experience. M444TTB Posted March 16, 2012 Posted March 16, 2012 I guess this wouldn't help that much when you're on the move! http://www.softbitsshop.co.uk/half-hood-for-caged-roll-bar-671-p.asp Quote
carbon-nv Posted March 16, 2012 Posted March 16, 2012 A set of these may also help...beautifully named too! http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Drynads-Westfield-new-innovation-/320865793926?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item4ab5177786 Quote
Wile E. Coyote Posted March 17, 2012 Posted March 17, 2012 Biker's rain suit works well. I have an Alpinestars one (came out well in a MCN group test a while back) and it's great - light enough to throw on whatever else you're wearing and even at trackday speeds it lets in nothing. Lid is useful too: rain is harder than you think if you hit it at any real speed. Quote
Marcus Barlow - Show and Events Co-ordinator Posted March 17, 2012 Posted March 17, 2012 Don't forget to use rain-x on your visor. If you are caught out in heavy rain it makes a world of difference Quote
Norman Verona Posted March 21, 2012 Posted March 21, 2012 I have a helmet but have only used it once. I have a set of gardening waterproofs, but never used them. I wear a set of Birdz goggles which are large enough to wear my glasses under and a beanie hat which I can pull down to touch the goggles. Works well even in an hail storm. I've been soaked many times and just view it as part of the fun of 7 motoring. For what it's worth I feel if I'm going to wear a helmet I may as well drive a tin-top. Quote
