kirkyboy5 Posted March 13, 2012 Posted March 13, 2012 So after a day of messing about with my cars and the mrs car I have finally done my first bit of Vinyl wrapping. I wrapped both wing mirrors of my girlfriends Seat Ibiza FR! Typical for a slow learner... it took me 1 and a half hours to do the first and 10 minutes to do the second. The second looks a lot better too, cleaner and better around the edges using the hair dryer to keep the vinyl stretched is the key and using brut strength to pull it over the plastic. However they both still look very good So after a burnt thumb from the hair dryer, a sore neck and back from bending over and many damaged brain cells I did my first bit of wrapping. I'll post some pictures soon, i would have done it tonight but by the time I finished it was going dark next is the westfield... Dan Quote
rocket_rabbit Posted March 13, 2012 Posted March 13, 2012 Yeah, I have just done my aeroscreen in it. Hairdryer is the key and it only takes a little heat to make is nice and flexible. Quote
simon besant Posted March 14, 2012 Posted March 14, 2012 Don't forget to let it cool and then rehearse it so it doesn't start to return to its previous shape. It's what I have been told to do and it does stop it bubbling up on surface shape changes. Quote
carbon-nv Posted March 14, 2012 Posted March 14, 2012 Looking forward to seeing some pics and of rabbit's screen (Is yours a Westfield screen that stretches slight when fitting over the scuttle and does this affect the finish of your wrap?) 'Have been thinking about trying some carbon wrapping, using carbon cloth, but it's working round some of the curves that looks a bit daunting, especially on things like small single seater-type mirrors. I've no doubt that the challenges with carbon vinyl are just the same Quote
dombanks Posted March 14, 2012 Posted March 14, 2012 if you do it wrong can you just heat up the wrap and take it off without damaging the underlying surface? Quote
kirkyboy5 Posted March 14, 2012 Author Posted March 14, 2012 yeh if you do it wrong just heat it slightly pull it back of and re do it, you can do this as many times as you want as the heat melts the glue every time and then it again seals when cools down. Quote
kirkyboy5 Posted March 14, 2012 Author Posted March 14, 2012 if anybodies local to me (west midlands) that needs a chuck with it then let me know Quote
