stephenh
Hi Steve. As I think you know, the list 1B tyre of choice in the Speed Series is the V70A in super soft rubber. That of course is on very light (ie Westies) cars. I have no idea how they would go on a slightly heavier car. I assume you are planning to sprint it, in class J? ][\/][ajor1
I was once advised this regarding tyre choice Posted 19 November 2011 - 04:02 PM you wont know until the day what the weather will be like or how cold ,just turn up and drive to the conditions on the day ,no need to worry about tyres in december or getting them up to tempteture (its not a race) just enjoy yourself , no point buying tyres for one cold track day unless you have money to waste
stephenh
Well that is sound advice for a trackday, but not for competition!
][\/][ajor1
Well that is sound advice for a trackday, but not for competition! I didn't think so. Wanted to have the most grip available to have a good day without putting in the tyres. In competition, I would imagine that would be your philosophy too. SteveD
infact this question was followed by more stupid questions imho ,the advice was dont worry just turn up and drive to the conditions on the day [\/][ajor1' timestamp=1321717302' post='915809]Maybe a daft question but I'm doing a track day at Donnington on the 3rd Dec and I'm wondering if the 888 GG I have on at the minute will get up to temperature OK or would I be better of getting some others. I'm expecting the weather to be below the 10 deg C mark and there doesn't seem to be too much breaking time on a lap. Steve my advice was you wont know until the day what the weather will be like or how cold ,just turn up and drive to the conditions on the day ,no need to worry about tyres in december or getting them up to tempteture (its not a race) just enjoy yourself , no point buying tyres for one cold track day unless you have money to waste and that my freind is a bit different from my question for a competition car that will be used in summer for sprints and hillclimbs where i will be using slicks but dont want to trash a set of over £1200 a time slicks while getting used to the car ,and then when im up to speed with it fit some soft slicks ,that way saving myself around £
echoz
bl**** hell what is wrong with people, must everything end in a row! Steve i got a spare tyre im in the progress of losing round my waist, you can have it if ya want
ACW
I think your choice is ideal. Super Soft probably isnt availble in those diameters from memory and in any case will be too soft for your vehicle weight IMHO. I can muller a set of super soft on the westy with double drive at LLandow and say 20 laps of testing.

stephenh
ta wuv , and where are people buying kumhos, or is it good old google there seem to be some on ebay in medium compound for sensible money I'd like to know the answer to that question as well. Personally at the mo I just look at Camskill on line price, and then invite the guys who do my tyres for the tintops to try and match it, but maybe I'm loosing out by that? I dont know. If Camskill are about the cheapest, then it looks as if not a lot of discount is available on the Kumhos.
Bananaman
South Shore Tyres (Blackpool) were a good place to get them (V70's) from when i was running them 5 years ago.. http://www.tyressouthshoreltd.co.uk/
stephenh
Steve, I suspect it rather depends what sizes/profiles you want so you can check what is avaiIable?
gixermark
Tony is south shore tyres seems good on price and also advise Steve... I'd be scouring the net for some 2nd hand slicks tho? As the feel of the car will be similar... Or more so, that putting on greased when you a eventually going for superr stickies.. Pistons heads has a section per tyre diameter, or places like sticky slicks may hev or know where to get slicks in that size?
