Blatman Posted February 22, 2012 Posted February 22, 2012 I noticed yesterday, on PH, that from 1 July every car also needs to be equipped with a breathalyser ... http://www.pistonhea...paign=2012-2-21 According to the AA webpage I linked to, clarification on the law is expected any day now... dave_t Posted February 23, 2012 Posted February 23, 2012 According to the AA webpage I linked to, clarification on the law is expected any day now... Sorry ... didn't spot that ... or V8Grunt's earlier post! It'll be interesting to see what they decide, as I travel to France a lot (my folks live over there) Quote
s2rrr Posted February 23, 2012 Author Posted February 23, 2012 Keep the info coming guys I'm picking up loads of tips of what and what not to do. Bit worried about the Pikeys as we are staying Sunday night but if they can nick my tent while I'm in it they are welcome to it. They had better be strong to carry me far. I think we are going for the Blue park but haven't had confirmation as yet. Does anyone know if the Blue car park is very far from the tent area, as carting the beer may be a bit tiresome. The breathalyser business could be an issue when will we know ?? Bob Quote
Blatman Posted February 23, 2012 Posted February 23, 2012 Blue Car Park is adjacent to Blue Camping. The car park is one side of a side road that goes to Arnage. The campsite is the other side. All you have to do is Google it... http://www.clubarnage.com/ http://www.lemans.org/en/ http://www.24lemans.co.uk/index.html Quote
s2rrr Posted February 23, 2012 Author Posted February 23, 2012 Thanks blatters, the reason I was asking was because the map shows a clear parking area further away from the track and a camping area nearer the track I was interested as there are no scales on the map I have and its hard to guesstimate how far the longest walk could be from beers and selected valuables stored in the car to the temporary accomodation. I will attempt to get a map with a scale which will help planning the routes and walks a bit better. Thanks to everyone else who has contributed. Bob Quote
Mark (smokey mow) Posted February 23, 2012 Posted February 23, 2012 its hard to guesstimate how far the longest walk could be from beers You'll never be too far away from a source of beer :d The seasoned race fans can be seen wheeling around one of these or these filled with everything you'll need for the 24 hours, they also double up nicely as a seat for when the legs get weary or as a platform to see in a crowd. s2rrr Posted February 24, 2012 Author Posted February 24, 2012 Excellent stuff I'm getting quite exited about it all and its months away, but best control myself at my age. Lets hope the breathalyser bit is confirmed as 1st July or later. Mark , love the carry box, seat, stand jobby, will look into that or something similar. All good stuff Bob  Quote
CL290005 Posted February 25, 2012 Posted February 25, 2012 S2rrr as Blatters says but if you google and look at the begining of the start straight, then find the airfield Bleu parking is very much the camping in this area tends to be towards the back/ airfield section Quote
Blatman Posted February 26, 2012 Posted February 26, 2012 Camping at the backof Blue car Park is Bleu Nord, camping at the front, across the Arnage road from the (massive) blue car park is called Blue Sud. Breathalyser law is not implemented until July 1st at the earliest so just a warning triangle and a hi-vis vest required. BUT... something I learned just now... ================================================== Satnav and speed camera alerts Since 3 January 2012 French laws have prohibited drivers from carrying any device capable of detecting speed cameras. This includes devices able to warn or inform of the location of speed cameras e.g. satnav or gps systems capable of showing speed camera sites as Points of Interest. As well as the ban on warning devices, the French government is installing around 400 new, unsigned, fixed speed cameras as well as taking down signs indicating the location of existing camera sites. If you have a satnav capable of displaying French camera locations in France then you must at least disable camera alerts. Contact the manufacturer for advice too as a software or database update is likely to be available that will remove camera data for France from the device. If you have a satnav system built into your car then contact the vehicle manufacturer in the first instance. ================================================== From here... Quote
Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) - Club Chairman Posted February 26, 2012 Posted February 26, 2012 Tom Tom has already announced new France-friendly maps, not sure if they're available yet though. Quote
Mark Stanton Posted February 26, 2012 Posted February 26, 2012 Tom Tom does have updates to French speed cameras but you don't have to download them ;) and bear in mind that the French cameras are huge things with yellow and black tape across them often sited on the central barriers and are usually more apparent then the UK ones. Its the gendarmes with mobile cameras that hide themselves behind bushes and abutments that you have to be more careful of with their on the spot fines Quote
Blatman Posted February 26, 2012 Posted February 26, 2012 There's definitely a fixed camera in a hedge on the N138 north of Argentan. Caused me a couple of... er... moments, on the drive down in the past. Speed cops like to hang out at the entry and exit points of the small towns on the N138, catchng out those who slow down too late or accelerate too early. That said, French drivers do often flash their lights to warn oncoming traffic of a speed trap ahead. Trouble is, they may flash a Westfield 'cos it's an unusual car to see in France, so it's not a reliable indicator of an iminent tax collection point speed trap... Quote
