Roadracer2002 Posted February 20, 2012 Posted February 20, 2012 Hi, I've recently purchased a Megablade for trackday use and the occasional (dry, sunny day) road use. The engine is the Honda Fireblade and the previous owner used semi- synthetic Maxima oil as this is apparently very good for clutch longevity. It is however not widely available. What do other Megablade owners use? What are the pros & cons of fully synthetic vs semi- synthetic oil? TIA Hadrian Quote
jug_ears Posted February 20, 2012 Posted February 20, 2012 I picked my Megablade up last week and would like to see the comments on this for info too Cheers Paul Quote
nickw2000 Posted February 20, 2012 Posted February 20, 2012 Me too please this will be appreciated I will be watching replies Quote
Dave the Sparky Posted February 20, 2012 Posted February 20, 2012 I believe 10/40 semi with wet clutch anti slip additive, I'll get the name of the stuff my m8 sells, I'm no mechanic so only repeating what he recommended, I await the flames if he/I'm wrong... Dave Quote
GreigM Posted February 20, 2012 Posted February 20, 2012 I've been using this stuff: http://www.opieoils.co.uk/p-785-silkolene-comp-4-10w-40-synthetic-ester-based-4-stroke-engine-oil-for-high-performance-motorcycles.aspx in both blade and busa engines - no issues with the clutch in either..... Johnson Posted February 20, 2012 Posted February 20, 2012 Just purchased 9 litres (damn you dry sump ) of the same oil today for my Busa not from Opie though Quote
GreigM Posted February 20, 2012 Posted February 20, 2012 Where are you getting it from? Opie prices really aren't very good - can beat them on ebay! Quote
nickw2000 Posted February 20, 2012 Posted February 20, 2012 What's the capacity of oil needed for the fireblade? Quote
Johnson Posted February 20, 2012 Posted February 20, 2012 I was lazy and called into a Suzuki dealer I happened to be passing today I know I could have got it cheaper elsewhere but wanted it today. I have used Motul 7100 being unemployed for 3 months put a stop to buying that again . Pretty sure you will get away with 4/5 litres for a Blade engined car Quote
mitch46 Posted February 20, 2012 Posted February 20, 2012 i always used 10/40 semi castrol power 1 in my blade, and using it in the blackbird lump now Quote
mark.anson Posted February 20, 2012 Posted February 20, 2012 ive used Castrol, Motul, and cheap **** from the local motor factors in my 1000rr sprint car with no ill effects, to engine or clutch. I just change the cheap one more often but as I can buy three for the price of one Motul its not a problem. Quote
nickw2000 Posted February 21, 2012 Posted February 21, 2012 Mite sound a stupid question but I'm new to BEC But do you fill and topup oil from unscrewing the dipstick with a funnel? Quote
Dave the Sparky Posted February 21, 2012 Posted February 21, 2012 Connected question, there is no dipstick under my filler cap and can see no viewing glass so how do you check your level? Dave Quote
Johnson Posted February 21, 2012 Posted February 21, 2012 Here is a link to the CBR900RR service manual. http://www.manualedereparatie.info/manuale/honda/Honda_CBR_900_RR_1996_1998_Manual_de_reparatie_www.manualedereparatie.info.zip It gives the oil capacity and shows the sight glass as well. I don't own a Blade engined car so I am not sure if they have a modified sump or oil cooler but the repair manual states 3.6 litres inc filter Quote
Dave the Sparky Posted February 22, 2012 Posted February 22, 2012 So whats the crack then? Im thinking this is a collection tank? but it doesnt seem to go anywhere, also as above how does one check ones level? Dave Quote
