M444TTB Posted February 19, 2012 Posted February 19, 2012 Hi all I'm Matt from Swindon. Hoping to buy my first Westfield when the right car car comes up. When I say comes up I mean again as I was too slow getting to this, which was seemingly perfect! www.pistonheads.com/sales/3645080.htm I currently have a BMW e36 as a very ratty track car and I was intending to plough loads of money into it. However constantly hearing about a colleagues MX5-based Westfield build got me thinking and I concluded getting one for myself was the way to go! Hopefully it will be faster in every respect and not actually be worthless if I need to sell up in a few years! Looking forward to fully joining up shortly! Quote
Dommo Posted February 19, 2012 Posted February 19, 2012 I'm more surprised the stories I've been given haven't put you off... at least put you off those built by someone who works in IT. Now, go out and buy the first one you see. Get it over and done with. Quote
the stoat Posted February 20, 2012 Posted February 20, 2012 Another Swindon owner here. Good luck with finding one. Quote
TIG Brother Posted February 20, 2012 Posted February 20, 2012 3 guesses as to who you know with an mx based kit Quote
M444TTB Posted February 20, 2012 Author Posted February 20, 2012 Yup him with the non-fitting bonnet! 1 Quote
TIG Brother Posted February 20, 2012 Posted February 20, 2012 Well I'd say wait till some ones is finished, have a go in that and then see how you feel towards the MX based kit. But that could all depend on how long it takes to get that bonnet fitted Quote
TIG Brother Posted February 20, 2012 Posted February 20, 2012 My build is www.mx5-Westfield.co.uk if you want some more mx based ideas. Quote
M444TTB Posted February 20, 2012 Author Posted February 20, 2012 I have been looking at the green 80% complete car on here. I'm rubbish with car DIY so a full build is way out of the question sadly. Too much money too Quote
Mooch Posted February 20, 2012 Posted February 20, 2012 You are welcome to come and have a look and a trip out in mine, Matt. I'm out near Malmesbury and here most of the time as I work from home. Don't write off building one. It's not as daunting as it sounds and if I can do it.....come and have a chat and a blat! Mike Quote
Dommo Posted February 20, 2012 Posted February 20, 2012 It's as daunting as it sounds don't listen Quote
Tom Frankland (T3OMF) Posted February 20, 2012 Posted February 20, 2012 In the summer when we all have our cars on the road, we should try and get all the Swindon Westy together. There seems to be more and more every year. Have a look at our club at Cotswold Quote
Mooch Posted February 20, 2012 Posted February 20, 2012 Sounds like a plan. Already been to the Cotswold meet a couple of times and I'll be there on Thursday to hear what Dave Gallop has to say about set ups. I'm also going Karting with the group in Swindon on 3 Mar which sounds like fun. Incidentally, I've also booked up for my first track day at the local airfield at Hullavington on Fri 9 Mar. Only £99 sounds like a bargain. Any other Swindonites up for it? Quote

Mooch Posted February 21, 2012 Posted February 21, 2012 Provided it's not hoofing down, Jon Clancy and I are planning on bringing our Westies out for a formation blat up to the meeting on Thursday. First foray at night for me, so I just hope the goddess of automotive electrics is feeling in a benevolent mood that night! Quote
