a4gom Posted February 15, 2012 Posted February 15, 2012 Struggled with a slow puncture most of last year but got by, decided to get it checked out and it turns out there was a rusty hole in the rim! The wheel is 13", 100PCD, by my reckoning it has the following markings SMITHS 13 45JSL. I've done a quick measure outside extents of rim to mounting face 36mm, inside extents of rim to mounting face 99mm (roughly) I think the 45JSL will relate to 4.5J and by my reckoning I'm looking at ET 31.5 obviously it won't be 31.5 but get's us in the right ball park. We did manage to find a spare some years ago which fit the bill by trial and error from a pile of wheels at local scrappy but never knew what it came off, this is a 5J and is stamped ET37 it is also stamped GM In my experience ET 37 would suggest front wheel drive so i'm thinking Corsa? If anyone has a clue what will fit or even better one sat in a local garage please point me in the right direction. Cheers Quote
Blatman Posted February 16, 2012 Posted February 16, 2012 IIRC, it's a BL Mini wheel that usualy fits the bill BUT, I'll stand to be corrected on that... Quote
SteveD Posted February 16, 2012 Posted February 16, 2012 what trailer is it ,worth ringing the maker if its a named trailer Quote
Man On The Clapham Omnibus Posted February 16, 2012 Posted February 16, 2012 My trailer would accept a BL Mini wheel if it weren't for the brake drum not going in the back recess. The trailer wheels I have are nil offset... Quote
a4gom Posted February 16, 2012 Author Posted February 16, 2012 It's not a named trailer of sorts, it was custom made abroad on an Al-ko chassis and axels. I can get a wheel with the correct crudentials from a trailer / caravan outlet but at a cost! There doesn't seem any reason to do so if one is readily available from the scrappers for a £5. Mini wheels are 4" pcd the wheels on this are 100mm splitting hairs I know but there is a difference. Quote
Man On The Clapham Omnibus Posted February 16, 2012 Posted February 16, 2012 Try this place: http://www.bigtyres.co.uk/ They had tyres for mine which, like yours, is a converted jobbie from 'other uses'. Quote
lippydave Posted February 16, 2012 Posted February 16, 2012 This any help? http://www.carlsalter.com/old_wheel_fitments.html Quote
Davep1 Posted February 16, 2012 Posted February 16, 2012 Probably stating the bleeding obvious (!!), but check the hole in the middle is big enough for your trailer hub - often car based wheels wont fit.. Cheers, Dave. Quote
s2rrr Posted February 16, 2012 Posted February 16, 2012 (edited) Sorry realised you are looking for a wheel not tyre at the moment forget this dross. For a trailer/caravan you will also need to be aware of the load rating required to keep it legal you can find that on the web and as long as the each wheel of the trailer can handle more than half the "total" weight of the trailer then you should be ok. Theres all sorts of legalities about trailers and weight plates etc. At the moment just finding out the diameter, width, profile, speed rating then the load rating should be enough. Caravan trailers can be like rocking horses as they are generally highly loaded and a bit pricey but if you have a blow out you are stuffed. Bob Edited February 16, 2012 by s2rrr Quote
a4gom Posted February 16, 2012 Author Posted February 16, 2012 lol wuv, times are hard up north! cheers lippy dave, was looking at that the other night pity it doesn't go that bit further and identify ET to model rather than 35...42 but it does show there should be plenty which will fit. I do need to check the centre bore though as Dave has pointed out as thats the only thing I didn't measure. Quote
Andrew Posted February 17, 2012 Posted February 17, 2012 I've used Trailertek before, good service. They have a few 13" wheels listed. http://www.trailertek.com/acatalog/13_inch_rims.html Quote
bhouse Posted February 17, 2012 Posted February 17, 2012 No idea if they're any use to you but I have two 1971 MG Midget wheels that you could have. They're 4.5Jx13" but no idea what offset etc they are Brian Quote
Nick Algar - Competition Secretary Posted February 17, 2012 Posted February 17, 2012 I've used Trailertek before, good service. They have a few 13" wheels listed. http://www.trailerte..._inch_rims.html 2nd Vote for Trailer Tec. I have a brand new wheel and tyre from them, which I could be interested in selling as thinking of going smaller diameter to lower the trailer. PM me if of interest. Quote
a4gom Posted February 17, 2012 Author Posted February 17, 2012 Got to say trailertek do seem reasonable for a new tyre on a new wheel and free delivery for over £50! Well worth a bookmark. Thanks for the offers nick and bhouse, thing is the tyres were new last year they have only done the miles I did to half a dozen events and I'm pretty confident i'll sort a wheel that will fit for a fiver!
