C16XE
Hi, I've been away since before the board move, busy moving house and such. I tried logging in using my old username and password to no avail, and then tried registering it but it says its already in use so I guess they carried over? Under this username I then tried the "view new content" tab and it says I dont have permission to use the search function? Any help appreciated! Cheers
peterg
you need to 'upgrade' your membership for the new Boardroom.... details on link in Help below http://forum.wscc.co.uk/forum/index.php?app=core&module=help&do=01&HID=

Captain Colonial
Sorry, but only paid up club members can use the search facility now. You've missed a few arguments in the subject already, but that's the new policy. If you want to search the boards, you'll have to do it via Google or pay up and join up. C16XE
It gets worse and worse! Bad enough no sale forums but I can live with the logic, then no pms and now no search? I'd join up but as an occasional user I can in no way justify the cost and I resent being extorted tbh.

I'd join up but as an occasional user I can in no way justify the cost and I resent being extorted tbh. Not allowing access to the sale forums has always been the case and always worked and made sense, stops dreamers and tyre kickers from wasting member time, also lets members benefit from selling parts to each other without the bother of outside vultures swooping in. Same with PMs, stops outsiders from abusing the system, if you want to contact a member, then YOU have to provide contact details to prove you're not a spammer or a troll, makes perfect sense. Charging a few measley quid for access to a decade-old database with thousands and thousands of posts that can literally save you thousands of pounds in garage costs and hundreds of hours of labour time is not extortion, it's the bl**dy bargain of the century. Complaining that you can't have something valuable for nothing is misguided at best and pathetic at worst. Frankly, this should have been done years ago. If you're that desperate for info off the boards, there's a tool you can use that you might not be aware of - its called Google. Of course, you'd have to open another tab in your browser, which I accept is a real inconvenience. The clue is in the name - Westfield Sports Car CLUB, not Free Public Library & Playground. Any club that doesn't charge to join and allows total freedom isn't worth the letters in its name. You'll get over it.
s2rrr
This type of posting is getting a little tedious now. Yes the format has changed, yes its a bit different, yes some functions aren't open to none payers. Yes the people who do pay still also supply advice, information and counselling ( p*ss taking) free of charge. Oh and we also pay for the maintenance and upkeep of the site so that none members can still get the info and then take a pop at the people who do pay. Getting a bit like the NHS, ****** it off and take the medicine. Maybe just a badly timed posting. Bob Maybe a bit strong but read the application rules etc and when ready pay the fee should you still wish to be part of this club.
C16XE
Its a web forum, which occasionally hosts some interesting discussion. It's one of probably 20 I use on a reasonably regular basis. If I were to start stumping up cash to support forums it would be a LONG way down that list and sadly shelling out £20 quid a pop for all of them is somewhat impractical. It's fine if you keep your westfield blinkers on and choose one forum only to which you choose to 'belong' but I left that sort of playground behaviour a while back. I'll miss some of the less catalogue based rebuilds and interesting engine threads such as Nikpros but not enough sadly to endure the attitude of this forum. ianstewartshouse
Hi C16XE, sorry you feel that way, i've only been a member for a few months and feel i have got my membership money back many times over. I think the answers above reflect the other arguments em discussions on the subject. Ian
Terry Everall
So if we didnt change a SMALL membership fee how would we fund our successful club events etc? If you dont want to be part of it and its benefits then go elsewhere to one of your "free sites" Simples

Speaking of blinkers, you're sporting a fine pair at the moment. Using Google to trawl the WSCC boards for the valuable info you're looking for without charge too difficult for you? Typing out a polite request for info that many enthusiastic PAYING members are happy and quick to provide embarrass you or isn't fast enough because you have 19 other forum personas to maintain? If you take your own blinkers off, I think you'll find yourself sitting pretty firmly on the merry-go-round in the Pot-Meet-Kettle village playground. Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) - Club Chairman
I have to say, this endless harping on about the search function really does fascinate me. Until the new Boardroom was launched, for various (known) technical reasons the search function on the old Boardroom hadn't actually worked properly for years. A fact that became obvious really quickly the moment you tried using it in anger; yet I don't remember more than half a dozen or so people EVER actually bringing this up. Yet now it's a deal breaker. It's a strange world sometimes.
