Playo
Hiya fellas! I thought I'd join up here as I'm considering getting myself a westfield next year and would like to get as much knowledge on them as possible before buying. I'd like something that's high powered and as light as possible, it'll be mainly used on the welsh mountain roads/ twisty B roads surrounding them and a few track days. I've been looking at the Megabusa's as they seem to tick most of my boxes and seem to be within my budget (£10k - £14k) although I havent seen too many for sale. Can someone tell me what the pro's and cons of having a bike engined westy are, I was mainly concerned about the possible strain on the engine pulling something that's twice the weight of what it was designed for? I have a few more questions but that'll do for my 1st post Lol. Thanks
Captain Colonial
Welcome, first of all! Without wishing to get over-complicated on your first boardroom outing, let's just say there are certainly pros and cons for CEC vs BEC and as many opinions on both sides of the discussion. Many a thread and argument animated discussion has taken place in here on the issue! My best neutral advice is to go a local meet and get a ride in both BEC and CEC Westys, talk to the owners in depth and get as much info as you can to make a decision that's right for you. Also, when you're buying a Westfield, join the club and keep your eyes on cars for sale in here. For that kind of money, you will be able to buy an absolute stunning used car that was built with care and looked after with love, and will have a great pedigree as well.
Speed Freak
thats a healthy budget. you should be able to get something really pucker for that. dont jump at the first one you see-and good advice that about having a drive in both bec and cec before you decide. I spent a few months deciding which route I wanted to go, and got a lot of advice off the boys here- Ive just spent the last 11 weeks installing a honda s2000 engine into mine.. not finished yet, got the wiring to do, but the light at the end of the tunnel is nearly in sight! whatever you decide to get, youve got some great times ahead of you! all the best tim
Playo
Ha so it's a can of worms the pro's and con's of bike engined ones. well I dont want to start a war of words on the subject I suppose I could go with either really, my main wishes are 300+hp per ton a minimum (I'm currently driving a 600hp RS4 so it HAS to be fast fast) an LSD and maybe sequential box if they are usable enough. I like the non-screen/ no doors with full roll cage look too. I'm handy enough with a spanner to replace parts etc but dont think I'm upto the job of fitting engines etc from scratch quite yet I like the spec on the one listed with these http://www.autostradacars.com/Stock.aspx although the price has risen a few grand since I first seen it. Like I said this something that will be for next year so I have plenty of time to make up my mind! I'll try and make it to a meet if I can, if it's not a problem turning up in the Audi. hopefully I can have a chat with a few people there and maybe a pax ride too if there's one similar enough to what I'm looking for Thanks for the welcome too

Speed Freak
nice indeed. mate of mine over in germany is running an rs6 with some nice tweeks, running at 750hp!showed me a pic of him doing 338kmh (210mph)in it!
Playo
As much as I'd like two toys I doubt my wife would agree! I love the Audi and have had some great times with it, but I also like the finer side of driving so if it has to go it has to go. I'm getting my gearbox rebuilt soon to add a longer 6th gear, it'll give me a top end of 205mph then. Plan is to break the 200 barrier in it at a Vmax event at Bruntingthorpe this year (I've got it upto 190 so far) once Ive done that I'll be happy to move on. Can anyone offer some advice to what cars would best fit my needs when it comes to buying a good westy?? I've searched the net for suitable cars but they seem thin on the ground tbh. Playo
Errr yes thanks for pointing out you've already said to go to a meet and keep an eye on the for sale section. I was hoping someone could elaborate a little on what actual choices are available to me. I'll keep my mouth shut now though If I'm annoying you that much. Don't worry, you're not annoying me - no need to shut up - chill out and don't be so sensitive! The point is, until you go look at Westies in person for yourself, you won't know what's best for you - only you can answer that question. It's a how long is a piece of string question - impossible to answer. The best Westie you can buy is one that has a known history from a club member IMHO. I can confidently say that practically 100% of people who bought their Westie from another club member are happy bunnies. Don't forget that if you have a problem, the person you'll buy it from will tell you how to sort it easily, whereas you'll have little comeback from a dealer. I appreciate your advice No worries - we all get crabby after little sleep or when cars refuse to be built / fixed / work. Best tip you'll get in here - beer is your friend, and you should never neglect your friends.

Playo
Very good! Thanks Langy! I can't wait to view a few cars now. Hopefully when the weather breaks there will be more for sale giving me a chance to check out a few different models. I'm guessing these tend to sell for more in the summer, so can a better deal be had in the autumn/winter months? or do most owners tend to sell in the summer to make sure they get the best price possible? I'm guessing option 2 here Lol.
SootySport
There will be more for sale in the Spring as everyone hopes they fetch more money, so more choice to you as a buyer. Winter sales are cheaper but as a buyer there will be less choice of available cars. If I were you look around from now and find the right one, you do have a healthy budget.
