Bmw 335D Automatic Gearbox

This has been happening for a while now. A few years ago I bought a tidy astra van from a friend, and 6 months later the injector pump failed. I'd bought the van for £1500 and main dealer wanted £1400 for a new pump. I'd gone to the main dealer as my local dealer said the pump needed to be coded so though that it would be the easiest option.

In the end another garage fitted a replacement for £800.

Anyhoo, on the BM thing, I understand that if you have a BM warranty you can extend them and (depite how you feel about the dealer in question) if you find yourself needing a new box in 6 months time this might not be a bad investment.

Or it could be throwing good money after bad................

I've had a few BMs with auto boxes including a 535d AM Sport but currently running a 730D sport.

There is supposedly a gearbox reset where you put the 'key' in (do not touch the brake) and press the start button once but do not start the car. Hold down the accelerator for 25/30 secs then take your foot off and press the brake pedal. Start the car and drive as you normally would. This should, if what you read on other forums is true, reset the gearbox.

I have done it on mine and it does seem to make it change better but I can't help wondering if this is a placebo effect.

Give it a go...it's free. :t-up:

Just got back from the dealers and they said, nothing wrong though they did get the rough gear changes. Speaking a bit further we then get we have rest the gearbox and topped the oil up! Lo and behold the gearbox is back to normal.....so far. We will just have to see what happens once I've used it a bit. Thanks for your input, I agree oil changes are a must, this sealed for life stuff is just not on, I'll try the rest thingy if I need to but on the good side they did agree to cover the cost of the washer jet in the bumper under warranty, it fell off last week due to the water freezing (even with the additive in) so I must give them a thank you for that.

So gearbox is knackered because its had no oil in and you now have it back. I wonder how long its going to last?

As to taking modern cars apart - yes they are a pig to work on - and dealers don't have the skills to take a box apart so I did it myself. :)
