Carpenter Chr7s Posted February 4, 2012 Posted February 4, 2012 Overfueling for some reason.Drinking petrol Running standard ecu, lightened balanced crank and flywheel and changed the standard air box for a cone filter. any suggestions? Cheers Chris Quote
Carpenter Chr7s Posted February 4, 2012 Author Posted February 4, 2012 Steve It's running with the standard set up and regulator etc. I'll check the pressure Cheers Chris Quote
Mark (smokey mow) Posted February 4, 2012 Posted February 4, 2012 It could be a couple of things, has it only started doing it since you changed the airbox for a cone filter Chris? I'd start by looking for a vacuum leak on the inlet manifold and also check that all the air entering the throttle body is metered and enters via the AFM. A couple of engine bay pics would be helpful if you're able and I can then verify the inlet plumbing. If the engines not measuring all the air it would be inccorectly fueling the engine. I forget whether you have a 1600 or 1800cc engine, do you have the flap type airflow meter or the later axial vane type? As Steve says, fuel pressure, IIRC Rick had a fuel pressure regulator issue. When you say drinking petrol what sort of mpg are you seeing? I normally see about 35mpg from mine on a spirited run out. Do you still have the carbon cannister connected? Quote
Carpenter Chr7s Posted February 4, 2012 Author Posted February 4, 2012 Mark I'll check the plumbing on the intake. (got no pics at present) I've got a 1.6 with the flap type. Haven't checked mpg yet but not good! Cheers Chris Quote
Carpenter Chr7s Posted February 4, 2012 Author Posted February 4, 2012 Oh and no carbon canister But ghats just a filter from the vent isn't it? Quote
TIG Brother Posted February 4, 2012 Posted February 4, 2012 Check the fuel pressure as you're very first thing. The pressure regulator has a habit of sticking. As I found out the hard way Quote
TIG Brother Posted February 4, 2012 Posted February 4, 2012 Get a fuel gauge from some where like eBay. Check what it reads, should be about 38 psi I think but don't quote me on it. The Westfield supplied fuel pump runs at 48 - 50 psi when un regulated. I unblocked mine by accident, I was checking for leaking injectors and I was crimping off the fuel return line to check for pressure drops ( using the diagnostics box you can override the fuel pump without having to run the engine ) I did the pressure build up 3 or 4 times, and after I did that it appears the regulator released itself. Carpenter Chr7s Posted February 4, 2012 Author Posted February 4, 2012 Cheers Rick I'll do that Chris Quote
