my little one has express an interest in building a go kart she can use at a kart track... she does want what I had when I was little... she want one with an engine...

I knew bringing her along to Speed Series events was going to be possitive :)

Anyone any experience of this.... and all advice welcome..

She is current 8, 9 in August

most msa kart circuits run cheap sessions for youngsters to have a go to try and get them interested

find your nearest kart circuit in the blue book and give them a ring

be warned if she likes it and wants to race you,ll be selling the westy to pay for it

Hmmm... :) i know...

I know a local track near me ... but she want to build one... if she likes it after the tester session.

What are the pit falls...? is it worth buying 2nd hand or building your own...

by build your own do you mean chassis from tubes or buy one and go thro it to make it ok

i would take her and let her have a go if she likes it buy a secondhand kart with engine and let her do some practice sessions at your local circuit

at her age you would be looking at a cadet kart with a honda gx160 single engine

wouldnt even consider making your own chassis and they wouldnt let you on track with it

Cool. Will give my local place a ring and see what they can offer... problem I have found online are some state over 12's :( how's she meant to be the next best thing in f1 with that kind of restriction...! ;)

Some circuits have a junior track for under 12's I can't see from your profile where you are based Wheels in Birmingham have a junior track.

forget juniors they are for 12 years up, you go straight into a cadet at 8 years old , to be fair its late to start Ive seen 4 year olds and younger in bambino karts, they race at quite a few tracks and are fantastic to watch, some little uns really shine even at that age :d :d msa rules allow cadets from 8-13 years, we have just finished in cadets as my lad was over age and weight ,best imho is Honda cadet, dead easy to run engine is bomb proof, if you gonna persue it give me a shout will guide you through what ive learned! or have a read through the karting thread on here :d I set off knowing nothing about karts but have done 4 years intensely now and had a fair bit of success with both my lads wining local club championships 2 years on the trot and competing at national level :t-up: :t-up: :t-up:

oh and forget building, you wont be allowed to race it plus would you want to, Ive seen Ryan in cadet hit speeds close to 70mph at quicker circuits and when you get serious you are looking for 100ths of a second not tenths in set up something you have welded youself is never going to have the correct caster and camber angles, teams spend years developing a chassis to get it on the pace and you will be surprised how quick you can get a good set up

this is my lad in a honda cadet in action back end of last year chasing the scottish champion, he has supposedly been picked up by someone in F1 so it does happen!

Spoke to Thruxton this morning they do a comprehensive cadet course which seems the best bet locally... very helpful and a good place to start before any expensive outlay... and westfield sale ;)

Thanks all! :t-up: :t-up:

Thanks all! :t-up: :t-up:

dont even joke  we set away spending £20 on a sunday for all day track time, then getting more competitive started doing club championships, then sat arks test and started msa racing then we were doing the british championship at £600 a round all over the uk    we have now gone full circle and are back playing on a Sunday at £20 a day and tbh enjoying it much more than the pressure stuff, would love back in my hand what we have spent the last few years, but tbh been away just me and the kids for 2 and 3 days doing something we enjoy has brought us together and wouldnt swap it back for anything, I took 3 years out of my racing to let the kids race and I get more of a buzz out of looking after them and them doing well than i ever did myself    my turn this year though :d :d :d :d
