Redundancy Looms

Slightly of topic,

My mate had an Heart attack at the end of September, He has NEVER had a day off or made a claim in nearly 40 years! He has built up his own business as a builder,

His Doctor AND Consultant had him signed off till Mid February.....They stopped his sick pay and told him to get down the job centre 3 weeks ago, Even tho his Doctor and Consultant say he is unfit to go back to work!

O and he was only getting £60 a week sick pay?

Still O/T, your mate should get himself pregnant, become a single parent, claim he has learning difficulties, claim incapacity (heart condition doesn't cut it .. make it 'oh my aching back') and the money should flood in!

PS - I don't wish to make light of your mate's or anyone else's genuine situation or condition, but your case sadly reminds me of how poorly my brother was treated when he was made redundant after working (since leaving school) for over 20 years with hardly a sick day. The benefit office treated him like a scrounger and 'he should consider himself lucky he owns his own house', whereas the teenage baby machine at the next window cussed and spat at the assistant because her money hadn't come through that morning and she had a 'right' to hardship money "so give it 'ere, you fat ****** or I'll get the f*****' polis onto ye!" Charming!

My brother, on the other hand, was almost in tears when told that he wasn't entitled to help for six weeks .. he walked out and got himself a nightshift job crushing boxes at Tescos to see through the worst. His usual job - project manager for a sheet metal fabricator and commercial kitchen fitter..

That's pride! Once again, good luck to you all who are suffering financially right now.

Rant over!

Been in this position some years ago and ended up with two colleagues starting our own manufacturing business in my chum's garage. Didn't go quite as well as Microsoft but it paid the bills once we could pay ourselves a salary. One of the worst bits is the blow to your self-esteem. Family support helps a heck of a lot. You do find out a few things about so-called friends in your particular industry though. I was at an exhibition of the business in NEC and met a long standing fellow traveller in the business, told him that my company had been sold. He asked what I was doing and I replied, knowing that we were putting together a company but not wanting to say so at the time - a bit flippantly I admit, "unemployed". He turned on his heel and walked off without a word. :swear:

Good Luck, keep your pecker up! ;)

Been there myself in the past, really cut me up at the time but as has been said one door closes another opens in time and all the better I am for it. No good to dwell on the past, make your own future - it will be tougher in these times I guess and it worries me too as I'm possibly out of contract end of Feb. Wish you all the best...
