RedditchJay Posted January 31, 2012 Posted January 31, 2012 well.... 2012 and a pretty crappy start so far......... Just been served with 12 weeks notice of redundancy after 18.5yrs hard, solid service......... ;-( NOT what we all wanted to find out at our Transport hub......... closing us down and no alternative internal positions at the moment. Finish on April 30th. . . . . its a sign of the times    Quote

Norman Verona Posted February 1, 2012 Posted February 1, 2012 My thoughts are with those who are, for whatever reason, out of work. I remember very clearly the feeling I had when I left my first job and had no other to go to. I found another job within a week so it was OK. However, had I not left that first job my future career would probably not have worked as it did so, in hindsight, it was the best thing that happened. I firmly believe in "one door closes, another opens". Only, at the moment that opening door may take a while. Quote
John Loudon - Sponsorship Liaison Posted February 1, 2012 Posted February 1, 2012 Best of luck. i've been there 3 times now and it isnt nice but things usually turn around for you in the end so keep at it Quote
gixermark Posted February 1, 2012 Posted February 1, 2012 I've been through this too.... on the plus side - you now know where you stand, no uncertainty as to when/if it will happen etc... you have 3 months paid time to look out for yourself and get ahead of the rest - many of them will take a while to get motivated to get out there, see what else is out there and move on. Its tough - but will do you no good dwelling on the past and wondering what if... get a good CV built - put your 18+ years experience to best of you ability and move on to bigger/better things. hopefully they will see you right with respect to redundancy etc.. and maybe give you some outplacement assistance too - but if not, best thing you can do is rise above it and do whats best for you............ Rusty Nuts Posted February 1, 2012 Posted February 1, 2012 Sorry to hear that mate, hope something comes along for you. I have just taken a pay cut and won't know till April 2013 whether we still have jobs, had a letter come through yesterday telling us that there will be further job losses 50%. Sitting here wondering what to do next to wait and see or jump now the options out there are very limited as well, but thats the state of the country at the moment. Quote
V8grunt Posted February 1, 2012 Posted February 1, 2012 Slightly of topic, My mate had an Heart attack at the end of September, He has NEVER had a day off or made a claim in nearly 40 years! He has built up his own business as a builder, His Doctor AND Consultant had him signed off till Mid February.....They stopped his sick pay and told him to get down the job centre 3 weeks ago, Even tho his Doctor and Consultant say he is unfit to go back to work! O and he was only getting £60 a week sick pay? Quote
