SootySport Posted January 31, 2012 Posted January 31, 2012 Would a switch on the dash which illuminated the rear light do? Thats how BECs with reverse lights work -saves messing around with wires from the engine. Would anyone actually bother to switch the light on before reversing and then turn it off, I for one would not. It's just 2 wires to hooked up from the switched ignition to the light, one via the gearbox switch, simple job considering the ECU wiring to do. Quote
Speed Freak Posted January 31, 2012 Author Posted January 31, 2012 sorry guys, just had my dinner yeh its the s2000 box. basically Ive got to install all the stuff from the car loom that links to the engine loom via the ecu. so as to avoid any engine light errors... so what I must install is: immobiliser evap system (2 way vacuum valve and charcoal cannister) secondary air intake system (air pump/vacuum and valves) eld (electrical load distributer) pgmfi relay 2 oxygen sensors (im going to use the s2000 clocks, as the whole wiring loom is already here) the reverse light is not required for the ecu, but to pass the tuv it is. bearing in mind Ive got to syphon out a lot of wires to strip the loom back anyway-is it not worth just keeping the reverse light wire, and its feed to the fuse box, and simply wire it up to the westfield lights? is it that simple? or do the lights on a car such as an s2000 have looms going to them that feed the whole cluster, and not just an individual light? Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) - Club Chairman Posted January 31, 2012 Posted January 31, 2012 Don't know, does the S2000 have a bulb failure check function on the dash? TBH though, I always enjoy driving my car at night, and at the very least have to reverse off my own drive between parked cars, so I'd always want an easily worked (re automatic) reversing light. Johnson Posted January 31, 2012 Posted January 31, 2012 You might even have a neutral switch on the gearbox as well. Lots of Japanese manufacturers do. They are definitely connected to the stock ECU and will throw a CEL if they go faulty or are disconnected. They are normally used as part of the emissions control - the emissions are tweaked to run leaner when in neutral Quote
Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) - Club Chairman Posted January 31, 2012 Posted January 31, 2012 Can't say I'm particularly surprised, what about temp senders etc? Quote
Speed Freak Posted January 31, 2012 Author Posted January 31, 2012 the temp senders are all part of the engine loom, and connect directly to the ecu.this loom wont be touched, and will simply be plugged straight in. its the car loom thats the real project! I know a bloke over in germany whose done what Ive got to do, but hes not mentioned anything about neutral switches. hes sent me wiring diagrams of whats required for the cels... but the reverse light has nothing to do with that, so I guess I'll have to ask him what he did there. cheers for the help tho Quote
Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) - Club Chairman Posted January 31, 2012 Posted January 31, 2012 Sorry, meant do you have extra senders, such as temp, on the g.box Quote
