Got a letter from the pension people this morning. My pension is double what I thought it would be due to SERPS and other additional contributions.

That's nice.

We had to go to Angers to collect HMs French driving licence so we had a very nice meal in the s******y restaurant opposite the theatre,

6 huitres (oysters) followed by a huge piece of roast beef for two. Then a Colonel (lemon sorbet in vodka)

I thought Serps had been abandoned and does not figure in your pension calculations anymore, wrong there I see. Are you saying your pension is double the normal £96 state rate?

I thought the same but it counts for your contributions from 1978 to 2001 (may need to check those dates - that's from memory) Then theres two other figures for other additional contributions after the close of SERPS.

The current weekly pension is 102.15. I now get 217.xx

Still not sure how anyone can live on that but it's very welcome.

A couple of friends recently started theirs as well and the Serps made just a pound or two difference in their calculations. If you had your own business could you have been be on a different scheme to us mortal employed?

Whichever way you've done good, nice meal out every month for you and the Mrs. I guess.

Sootie, I did/do own a business but am still an employee. I paid a lot in NI so maybe thats why my contributions have paid back.

For whatever reason enjoy the extra dosh, not often you get paid more than you thought.
