Transmission Specialists - Central Scotland

Can anyone in the Scottish region help me.

I have put in a new engine and gearbox recently after destroying the old engine as some of you know. The gearbox was second hand but looked in much better condition than the one which was in my car so when changing the engine over it was easy to change that as well. However it has proven not to be the case and there are obviously bearings etc away in it. I also have a few small leaks in the diff and want to get it sorted once and for all.

Is there anyone recommended in the Central belt where I can take the car to get everything sorted as I dont want another year like last year with an unreliable car?

Fraser.

I posted mine to Road&Race Transmissions. They get a good rep so that is where mine went. Service was a bit slow if i'm honest and my box took 5 weeks to get sorted and it was only on the 3rd time of phoning them that they said it was done! Since I was in no particular rush, didn't make much difference, but if you are in a rush, best to pester them!

Having said that I had a good conversation with them about my box and the problems I was experiencing and it was all before I even sent it to them. At one point they were suggesting that nothing was wrong with the box at all (hence doing themselves out of money!). It was that genuine help over the phone that won me over and hence got my business.

I would love to tell you the box is now brilliant but until it is back in the car I can't. I have no doubts though :)

Couple of places you could try:

Kenny Brown in Hillington: http://www.glasgowonline.co.uk/info/14439/ - bit of a mixed bag, but can rebuild gearboxes and diffs.....would give him a call and ask - he's a good engineer but if you get him on an off day can have a questionable attitude - many people rate him very highly....might not be the cheapest though.

I'd also recommend talking to Peter McAnna at Motortune in Shotts:

http://www.motortuneshotts.co.uk

He's a great mechanic, would be very surprised if he couldn't fix this and his rates are very reasonable - he's worked on all my other cars and done good work....however he's very busy so you need to book the car in a few weeks in advance then be VERY patient......the more patient you are the cheaper the price seems to get!

Oh, and how could I forget:

http://www.gearboxservices.com/ in rutherglen - never used them myself, but I know the Porsche Dealers were sending their gearboxes here to be repaired.

Could you remove the gearbox/diff youself - would save a fortune as I imagine the cost for someone to find their way around a westie might be high?

Fraser - speak to Ziplob or Wee Dov. Bob deals with a bloke who knows his stuff and rebuilt Dov's MT75 last year.
