Crash test dummy Posted January 10, 2012 Posted January 10, 2012 It's that time of year again and I'm getting pretty fed up with paying £1000 for the Elise Insurance! The car is quite highly modified - VVC engine with solid cams, TB's, Emerald, EBD exhaust, Nitrons etc so I would expect a fairly hairy premium but it's the missus' car on a 5000 limited mileage, full NCB only 3 points for me (coming up to 4 years ago), garaged and we're both the wrong side of half a century! I think £1000 is taking the wee wee. Any suggestions? I've seen CCI mentioned but as their name suggests they appear to deal with competition stuff. Also the kerfuffle with listing all the mods and the need for engineer reports with some insurers can be offputting. Quote
XTR2Turbo Posted January 10, 2012 Posted January 10, 2012 I said in another post that Elises can, for some reason, be very expensive to insure. I flagged this as a factor to consider when evaluating Westfields vs some of the alternatives. Last year the cheapest I could get on a standard Elise R was around £500. I think Manning were the cheapest then Haggerty and then CCI for me. Haggerty have now stopped doing all non classic cars. CCI don't just do competition cars, I have an Ultima insured with them. I think all you can do is phone around. What may be cheaper for one person doesn't always ring true for another. Quote
peterg Posted January 10, 2012 Posted January 10, 2012 Not sure if this Wiki page is only for SELOC members http://wiki.seloc.org/a/Insurance if you can't view it then basically the list of specialist insurers used by Elise/Exige owners are:- REIS 0115 985 0165 - (Steve Hallam or Mary Singleton) CCI - 0844 892 1966 Heritage Insurance - 0121 246 6062 - ask for Martin (drivers over 28yrs.) Chris Knott (I used them for a VX220 a couple of years ago) 0800 917 2274 Henderson Taylor Insurance - 0161 4377442 ask for Matt Hope that helps. Quote
corsechris Posted January 10, 2012 Posted January 10, 2012 Hi Steve, I found MSM very good for my Strat copy but don't know how they feel about modded cars rather than kits?? Always very helpful though, so maybe worth dropping them a quick e-mail. Quote
GreigM Posted January 10, 2012 Posted January 10, 2012 Try aviva online - I recently insured my old Ferrari with them solely because they don't ask about modifications or alarms/trackers (I have a fruity exhaust and no working alarm) - and they were spectacularly cheap. Its a completely online thing - they don't send you any documents, you download them.....they haven't even asked to see my proof of no claims (although if I were to claim they would ask). Quote
Guest Simon Tullett Posted January 10, 2012 Posted January 10, 2012 I use CCI for my Elise (standard S1 wth a few cosmetic rather than performance mods) £260 per year and it includes some trackday cover. Knowledgable person I dealt with - I sent a load of pictures of all the mods I'd made (replaced the MMC disks, pads, indicators, headlight covers that sort of thing) took a hour or so to create an emailable file but it's done now so easy to keep up-to-date should I change anything else. Worth the effort for the cost of cover in my opinion. Good luck, £1,000 is a bit eye watering like you say. Mind you, chap in my office was moaning the other day that it's just cost him £3,000 to insure his 18 year old son on a Corsa! Quote

Crash test dummy Posted January 11, 2012 Author Posted January 11, 2012 Thanks everyone. I'll give CCI a call. Quote
Guest Nick Foscoe Posted January 11, 2012 Posted January 11, 2012 I think CCI and REIS tend to bracket the mod's into HP brackets. A small power modification to the Elise R for example, may still be under 200 HP and not change the premium; then it's the 250 or 300HP brackets. So, if no joy with CCI try REIS. Quote
Crash test dummy Posted January 25, 2012 Author Posted January 25, 2012 I'm baaaack! CCI did the trick. Saved me £555.00! Very easy to deal with - highly recommended. Quote
