Torqueman Posted January 4, 2012 Posted January 4, 2012 Great, looking forward to se and "hear" how things turn out Quote
housebeautician Posted January 4, 2012 Posted January 4, 2012 Looks interesting. Since my recent accident on the M25 and the unhelpful Highways agency (Can't be bothered to look) where i was forced in the armco by some hole who did a runner, i have thought about fitting one to my tin tops to record every day journeys as well as track days. It would have helped no end if i had got the hole on camera and would have paid for its self in one swoop just by getting his number. I assume that it is possible to get multiple mounts so that it can be moved from one vehicle to another. Does/has anyone know if they can be used in the dark. Thanks tony Quote
langy Posted January 4, 2012 Posted January 4, 2012 These are used by some HGV's, which do a similar job for the day to day driving Quote
Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) - Club Chairman Posted January 4, 2012 Posted January 4, 2012 Hi Tony, yes plenty of choices of mounts available, including suction cup jobs to go in a windscreen. (I use the suction cup job to fix it to the nose cone, though I'm sure it looks peculiar to everyone I pass ) and one of the stick on base plates (which the camera then just clicks into), on the OS rear wheel arch. The cameras were originally designed for use in good levels of light, strapped to your wrist, chest band, helmet, parts of a car, surfboard etc. so are quite a wide angle of view. The mark 2 version does work much better in lower light levels, though it won't work usably in the dark with headlamps on, there's just too much "noise" in the picture. Recording times are also limited somewhat, even with a 32 GB SD card by the high megapixel sensor/HD images. This makes it great for high quality filming, less so good as a permanently running in-car tool. The purpose designed units would be better for that. One of the other camera makers that I looked at does one too, Exeros, though I can't remember the model number. EtA Here you go Exeros DriverEye Quote
housebeautician Posted January 4, 2012 Posted January 4, 2012 Thanks Sean and Gadgetman. A lot of useful info there. I will look into it further. Tony Quote
Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) - Club Chairman Posted January 4, 2012 Posted January 4, 2012 Also, odd though it feels given that the day job involves HD video distribution from time to time, but I wouldn't necessarily get hung up on the 1080 HD recording side. Yes stuff shot at the highest res does look fantastic, but in a high vibration, harsh on-car environment, the 1080 is only at 30 frames per second which can lead to slightly blurry pictures and the odd artefact at times. Using the lower res 720 at 60 frames per second (played back normally, so doesn't look like slow mo.) gives some fantastically sharp pictures. In fact some I've done, if you freeze the frame, it almost looks like you've taken a still picture! Quote
JustCallMeMac Posted January 4, 2012 Posted January 4, 2012 For all those that have sound issues with their Gopro HD, I bought a couple of these. http://oliviatech.com/furry-stickover-windscreen-for-gopro-hd http://www.amazon.com/Micover....&sr=1-1 Not perfect but did make a real difference in reducing wind noise but not to the detriment of exhaust / induction, as the promotional video demonstrate. housebeautician Posted January 4, 2012 Posted January 4, 2012 Just tried GOPRO HD Hero 2 in the dark and no good. Will try and look at Sean's version as I think it would be wise to get one that does night stuff as well. But of course, dependent on cost. Quote
Johnson Posted January 5, 2012 Posted January 5, 2012 @Tony(housebeautician) what about one of these http://www.roadhawk.co.uk/ I recall it created quite a fuss at the time the guy published his video. Quote
