diff removal trick of trade needed!

Right Im trying to remove my diff as Ive got my replacement lsd ready to go in.

I'll be damned tho if itll come out.... Ive taken off propshaft, undone and removed drive shafts, undone rear mounting bolts. the only ones Ive left on are the upper ones to take the weight of the diff...the lower bolt that goes right through just wont come out.. Ive taken both nuts off but the bolt wont budge. Tried using a long metal rod and hitting it from side of car-but nothing, didnt move a mm. :bangshead:

so then presumed there must be some more thread that needs undoing to release bolt, so tried locking up 2 nuts on end-but cannot get the inside nut to move, its so damn tight, and theyres not a lot of leverage by tank.

anyone got a trick of the trade for me?

cheers

its a while since i tackled mine but pretty sure i just tapped mine out with a solid 30mm x 1meter  axle from the bairns kart and a tapping stick, then once it was through i put a big washer and nut on the other side and tapped it all the way out again with long axle iyswim   :t-up:

hmmm weird.

Ive got a heavy duty metal dowel which Ive been using. hitting it with a hammer does nothing! not one mm.

dont understand it tbh.

any other ideas?

Can you move the dif forwards and backwards pivoting on the last bolt to see if its seized on ,from memory I just knocked mine out the same way as Jeff

will try that now. cheers

The long bolt normally just kncks out on 7" sierra diffs

On 7.5" diffs the top bolts are threaded

if you have both nuts off each end then put a spacer on one and and the nut back on and wind it in

this should pull the shaft through

I would soak it in wd or similar first and leave over night though as if they were put in with no anti seize then it could be well rusted in

Have you taken the weight of the diff off the long stud.  It should just tap out but if you haven't popped a jack underneath to take the load it would be a lot harder to shift.

right, at end of my tither now...

removed all other bolts, it will tilt back and up on the lower bolt.(i did have the jack under to take weight before that tho).

there is simply no moving the b****y bolt. tried again with two nuts to no avail.

will try the spacer idea as its all thats left i fear. wondering how it will work tho, as there is no clearance either side of bolt to feed anything in through the mounting bracket-

what a pile of s***e.how a simple task can turn into a right ballache.

When diff tilts does it rotate with the long bar ( ie its rusted in) or does it spin around the bar?

You may need to get wheels off and drop rear upright to get a long drive bar lined up as a drift tool

i dont think the bolt moves at all when tilting diff.

wheels and uprights are off so to get driveshafts off diff.

edit. just checked, bolt doesnt move

Well it looks like you have a 7.5" sierra diff with bolts at top and rod at bottom

Try lots of WD40 on 2 bushed mounts and try a jack to take some weight of rod

try hitting from both directions to get it started cos its got to come out or you will have to get a hacksaw blade in to cut the rod and then replace it

It may need a good smack to get it started and use copper grease on reassembly

it is a 7.5".

Ive got (from westfield) the spacer to go to 7", which comes with the bolt, so Im assuming it goes at bottom where this one is? therefore no biggie if this bolt becomes useless...-tbh think this one would have to be replaced with the amount of bashing Ive done to the ends!

You said rod(S) on bottom.-this is a single rod that goes right through yeh?not two that go in from either side
