Geoff101 Posted December 22, 2011 Posted December 22, 2011 Hello, Anyone know where I can get some 4mm diameter, 12mm flange pop rivets? These are the ones used to hold the panels onto the chassis on my car. Not entirely sure on grip range but I guess 4-6mm would be about right?? Could also do with a handful of longer ones for where they go through the trim panel, bodywork and chassis. I've tried a few places but they've either nothing suitable or they've gone home for christmas and I'd ideally like some for next week. Bicester / Oxford area. Thanks Geoff

Thanks Geoff I might have a few left over that I could spare, how many do you need? Matt
Geoff101 Posted December 22, 2011 Author Posted December 22, 2011 Thanks for the tip - I found him and have ordered a couple of packs of what I hope are the right ones. Hopefully he'll get them in the post before christmas. Thanks for the offer Matt but I had a count up and needed at least 30 which is probably a bit too many to steal! Geoff
John Loudon - Sponsorship Liaison Posted December 22, 2011 Posted December 22, 2011 Did you order ones with sealed ends to keep the water out?
Geoff101 Posted December 22, 2011 Author Posted December 22, 2011 Don't think so but it's only for fixing the interior side panels back in so hopefully shouldn't matter too much. Do you have a linked to sealed type ones? Geoff
SteveD Posted December 22, 2011 Posted December 22, 2011 use blind rivets on the chassis nothing else , i cannot stress this enough ,use blind rivets anything else will let water into the chassis and rot it like hell , do not use anything else anywhere on the chassis other than blind rivets
Geoff101 Posted December 22, 2011 Author Posted December 22, 2011 Hmmm... That's £7 down the toilet then. Where can I get some blind rivets? Do I need anything else? Is a normal pop rivet gun ok for fitting them? So much to learn...
Tom Frankland (T3OMF) Posted December 22, 2011 Posted December 22, 2011 OK, ill ask the dumb question then...... Whats the difference between a blind rivet and a normal one...... or is this one of those "left handed screw driver" things.....
Mark (smokey mow) Posted December 22, 2011 Posted December 22, 2011 A blind rivet has a closed end so it creates a seal http://www.xinquanenterprise.com/photo/2010032644994101.jpg as opposed to the more normal open rivet that has a hole right through the middle http://aerobolt.com.au/media/Image/cache/R800600-Open_Rivet.jpg
Geoff101 Posted December 22, 2011 Author Posted December 22, 2011 Edit: beaten to it!! Just been on google trying to answer that question myself. Are you talking about this sort of thing Steve where the end of the mandrel is inside a closed cap rather than an open tube (this link just included for the picture) http://www.directindustry.com/prod....95.html Are all the original ones peppering the rest of my 20 year old chassis going to be this type? Bit difficult to tell when they've been drilled out! Geoff
Geoff101 Posted December 22, 2011 Author Posted December 22, 2011 ...and just to add confusion, many suppliers seem to refer to a standard pop rivet as a 'blind' rivet since you can use then when you don't have access to both sides of a hole (like when it's in box section)
mark.anson Posted December 23, 2011 Posted December 23, 2011 Er you could try Westfield. At least you will get the right ones !
Geoff101 Posted December 23, 2011 Author Posted December 23, 2011 They were my first port of call but cannot post until after the new year Geoff
