a4gom Posted December 19, 2011 Posted December 19, 2011 Can anyone explain what's going on here, this is an item I'm watching on ebay, there have been 3 bids but the value has remained the same. I don't use it much so it could be obvious but the only thing I can think is it's the same bidder upping his max amount? Is there any other reason? 3~ private listing - bidders' identities protected £2,995.00 18-Dec-11 20.02.49 GMT 2~ private listing - bidders' identities protected £2,995.00 16-Dec-11 18.23.01 GMT 1~ private listing - bidders' identities protected £2,995.00 15-Dec-11 18.20.16 GMT Starting Price £2,995.00 13-Dec-11 20.07.16 GMT Quote
Jumpy07 Posted December 19, 2011 Posted December 19, 2011 The same person has increased their bid three times. (auto bid) and as no one else is bidding the price has remained the same.. Craig Quote

RedditchJay Posted December 19, 2011 Posted December 19, 2011 ditto what Jumpy07 has said....... I have often bid on an item.... gone away... come back increased my bid ............ before anyone else has bid.... could be a scam though someone bidding on the sellers behalf to increase the bid value Quote
CL290005 Posted December 19, 2011 Posted December 19, 2011 Unlikely to be a scam, that normally happens when there is another bidder and they want to up the sale price. Andy You can check out there price by putting in a high bid then retract it as you made a mistake tyou will see exactly what had been done. Quote
Nick Algar - Competition Secretary Posted December 19, 2011 Posted December 19, 2011 You can check out there price by putting in a high bid then retract it as you made a mistake tyou will see exactly what had been done. How do you retract a bid. Never needed to do it, but usefull to know Quote
CL290005 Posted December 19, 2011 Posted December 19, 2011 Nick after you put a bid in you can retract but you have to give a reason the reason e bay allow this is people can make a mistake and place an in correct bid. So you need to go into the bid retraction form which I think is on the right side Provide a reason why you're retracting your bid, such as: You entered wrong amount Seller changed the item description You couldn't contact the seller Then the bid is retracted obviously this is something that should not be done frequently hope that helps Quote
RedditchJay Posted December 19, 2011 Posted December 19, 2011 NICK.... watch how long is left to run on an item.... i think anything less than 12hours to go a bid cannot be retracted........ Quote
Nick Algar - Competition Secretary Posted December 19, 2011 Posted December 19, 2011 Thanks guys, will log that one away, hopefully not needed, but who knows Quote
a4gom Posted December 19, 2011 Author Posted December 19, 2011 Cheers guys, finishes tomorrow so don't want to risk a bid just in case. I'll wait till last minute and put in the max i'll pay and see what happens Quote
CL290005 Posted December 19, 2011 Posted December 19, 2011 Andy As you say you are new to eBay a simple tip refresh the page and time how long it takes you can do this towards the end of the auction as the seconds are displayed. Obviously you can do this test on any item that is ending as you are only refreshing not bidding. Now you know the refresh rate you can time your bid to the last few seconds. I can get this down to 1-2 seconds before the finish, this stops other birders trying to out bid you if they see your bid. Be careful though as you need to be sure on your connection speed as you may get the timing wrong Quote
Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) - Club Chairman Posted December 19, 2011 Posted December 19, 2011 More reliable to just use sniping software such as Auction Sniper if you're that fussed. Quote
CL290005 Posted December 19, 2011 Posted December 19, 2011 Yes but you are giving your password out to another site which if it's hacked may cause you problems, I used this once for a late finishing auction, it did the works and I won, however I was not happy using this Quote
Nick Algar - Competition Secretary Posted December 19, 2011 Posted December 19, 2011 I use it all the time, but only on the bigger value auctions. It works great Quote
a4gom Posted December 19, 2011 Author Posted December 19, 2011 I think someone else must have been reading this, checked about 20 mins ago 8 bids £3800! Just checked again back to 5 bids £3100 Quote
