Cleggy the Spyder Man Posted December 13, 2011 Posted December 13, 2011 looks like a nice old un - you got anything planned for it? Am I right in thinking it has a sheet of perspex within the roll bar? Quote

Plucky Posted December 13, 2011 Author Posted December 13, 2011 Thanks for the engine. New engine 16v vaux (already sourced 240bhp) New gear box LSD Brake upgrade (currently drums on back) New seats. That's it's for the moment haha! Yes it does have Perspex in between the roll bar. Not sure why??? Is there much diff between the bodywork on and older car and a newer car? Quote
Captain Colonial Posted December 13, 2011 Posted December 13, 2011 Yes it does have Perspex in between the roll bar. Not sure why??? Previous owners attempt to reduce back draft at high speed, I'm guessing. Quote
flyingbanana Posted December 13, 2011 Posted December 13, 2011 Welcome! Might be interested in your old engine bits, depending on spec. and state. Perspex has probably been added to reduce buffeting, though I think sidescreens make the majority of the difference to that. The sheet probably adds even more drag, but looks bolted in , so you can try removing it to see how effective it is. As a "Wide" your bodywork is pretty commonly available. The pre-lit and Standard ("Narrow") bodywork is generally less common fitment for present-day goodies, the the factory can supply most parts still. Quote
Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) - Club Chairman Posted December 13, 2011 Posted December 13, 2011 Wide bodywork is fairly commonly available; but as ever in life it's not quite so straightforward as that There are quite a lot of detail differences between early style wide and later "ZK" style wide parts, that can make combining certain parts a bit on the tricky side. Best cross that bridge when, and only if, you ever need to A lot of cars use a simple mesh screen behind the seats for the same purpose as your Perspex jobbie. Quite common on topless Mercs! IIRC Softbits for Sevens do one for Caterham's too. Never tried one on a Seven style car. But on the one production convertible I've tried that had one it worked really well. As others have said, air deflectors in place of the side screens seem to be regarded by many as the best compromise in a Westfield with a windscreen. They're available from WF now as well - you can find them in the on-line parts store. Quote
