Philip Nixon Posted November 12, 2003 Posted November 12, 2003 I have for some time been considering building a Westfied of which would be for road / touring use. Taking into account the above I am not looking at any increase in power over the original unit. I have decided on the 1.8L Zetec & I am informed by Westfield that the original fuel injection system can be retained with the PATS system being taking care of by the new wiring harness. I am interested in advice /comments from anyone who has utilised the original fuel injection system, on the pros & cons of both installation & use. Philip Quote
Blatman Posted November 12, 2003 Posted November 12, 2003 I'm not a Zetec expert, but FWIW, I'd stick a 2.0l in there.........I'm reasonably sure all the standard injection gubbins is the same size for both engines, but the 2.0l will always produce better torque and power. There's no replacement for displacement...... There is some discussion about the Zetec and it's injection/power potential here, and here, and here, and here. You'll have to pick out the nuggets yourself....... Oh......welcome Quote
JonnyBoy Posted November 13, 2003 Posted November 13, 2003 isnt the OE 2l injection slightly lower profile? or is that just the intake-manifold duct thats a different design? I'd agree with blatters...stick in a 2l. better in the long run. I put an 1800 in mine (on twin 40's) as i thought i'd get stung with insurance. Not so it turns out! Quote

DutchWestfield Posted November 13, 2003 Posted November 13, 2003 Philip, I own a Westfield with a 2.0L Zetec with the standard injection system. It works fine. I have installed a DTA ECU, but I have seen installations with the standard ECU too. You will have to find a solution to connect the air filter to the inlet manifold. I used a purpose made airbox for this, supplied by the Dutch Westfield importer. The airbox is 100 euros. Check my website for pictures of this installation. The website is in Dutch (sorry), but if you click "verslag" and then "juni", "juli", or "augustus" you will get some pictures to give you an idea. Quote
thos Posted November 13, 2003 Posted November 13, 2003 I've got a 1.8 Zetec, running the Ford injection system and still on the Ford ECU. The 1.8 Zetec comes in three guises, 105PS, 115PS, and 130PS, unfortunatley I had the 105PS so in my quest for some further power I'll be ditching the Ford system over the winter period and moving to throttle bodies plus an MBE or DTA ECU. If going for a 1.8 make sure you know which engine it us 105/115/130, and ideally you'd want the 130. I thought I'd include this picture of my engine bay when I started. You can see the airbox at the back of the engine bay, the Ford ECU is in behind there, the airfeed then leading through the MAF sesnor and over to the single throttle body, and into the plenum chamber. The ducting coming across the exhaust is an attempt at a cold air intake to the airbox. I didnt build my Westfield, bought it 2nd hand, and have only had it 4/5 months, but I'll do my best to answer any questions. Thanks, Tom Quote
Ian Podmore Posted November 13, 2003 Posted November 13, 2003 And my little comments.... I've got an 1800 Zetec 130 on standard injection. It's the one with the throttle in the horizontal plane with the feed coming across the top of the cam cover, so it needs the 'V8' type bonnet, albeit offset to drivers side. I looks like you can get some inlet manifolds that don't need that though (like Thos's) The engine is very tractable, it always starts on time (there's a curse on it now!, quiet induction, and it has got an idle control valve so stalling is almost impossible as the car is sooo light. But to upgrade the power properly, you need to change the ECU as well as all the inlet stuff. If you just want the car for touring and blats, it will be just fine, you don't need any more power in a Westie for the thrills... However, if you ever want more power, best to start as you mean to go on and put a proper TB based system in. Quote
