Plucky Posted December 6, 2011 Posted December 6, 2011 Me and my dad have just bought a SEIW currently home for to a 1700 crossflow engine. Im having slight troubles getting comfy in the car. I'm 6'1" and about 17 stone. The seats are cushioned type and I can fit my fist behind the back so theres a bit of space left but I still think i'm going to need a different seat. Can anyone reccomend one? Also is it possible to modify the dash at all, maybe cut a bit off the bottom. The steering wheel isnt too bad its more thr dash crushing down on my legs. Will probably be posting alot more here as we will be after advise when we come to fit the new engine (240bhp 16v Vauxhall from my dads old national hot rod) Quote
XTR2Turbo Posted December 6, 2011 Posted December 6, 2011 You will fit easily with the right slim seats mounted low in the car. Or as a first step try your seats without the runners etc You may then need to extend the steering column though as you will be further back in the car. A removable boss helps getting in and out Quote
Speed Freak Posted December 6, 2011 Posted December 6, 2011 just bought a westy too, and have the same problems (6ft2 14.5 st). so Ive got my westfield sport seats for sale and Ive just bought some of these- http://www.jkcomposites.com/unholsterypage.html ,everyone here recommends them with the upholstery not the cheapest, but great looking seats, and good customer service, sent me small bits of material so I could cloose colour better. you can sit that bit lower and further back that (hopefully) the steering wheel and dash wonot be a problem Quote
Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) - Club Chairman Posted December 6, 2011 Posted December 6, 2011 Sorry, not understanding what you mean about getting your fist behind your back; are you saying thats how far the seats are from the rear bulkhead? Is that where you need them, or can you not get them back any further? The only reason I ask, is your not that tall or that heavy you may need to do a couple of little mods that can raise the height of the wheel where it passes through the dash, and possibly space the wheel a little closer to you. But you shouldn't need thinner shell type race seats. I'm about the same height, and before loosing weight, was quite a bit more than you and still fit comfortbly in the car with the sports seats. (though have done the steering wheel mods). Quote
Speed Freak Posted December 6, 2011 Posted December 6, 2011 im 6ft2, and without the steering mod, could barely drive the car with sports seats, and Ive got a mini wheel installed which is way to small! gone down the jk seats route now, hopefully that will be enough... if youve got a windscreen this would be the best route, as your line of sight will be brought down off the rim onto glass! jeff oakley Posted December 7, 2011 Posted December 7, 2011 If I have understood this the seats are the normal westfield ones which have a pair of wings that do not move. Being broard in the shoulders mine are a bit tight but my back touches the back of the seat. I have looked at seats from intatrim, which if you go on their website the seats that I am considering are the Endeavour. This shouls allow you to sit right back and a bit lower than the sports seats. Quote
JulianE Posted December 7, 2011 Posted December 7, 2011 A regards seats and steering you seem to have a good few answers as regards dash you could fit an ear type one follow the link for a picture of what I mean Ear type dashboard Quote
jerryhzx12 Posted December 7, 2011 Posted December 7, 2011 Try Triton seats - I have very long legs and they gave me the extra bit of leg room. I'm not as heavy as you, but my wife managed to get her fairly well upholstered backside comfortably in the passenger seat, so you should be OK on that front too. (guess who is confident his wife doesn't read WSCC web site....) Quote
